Hi Divyank,

The error code 0x80072F76-0x20017 means that the tool doesn't have permission for it to run. For us to assist you, we suggest that you follow the simple steps listed below:

  1. Right-click on the Media Creation Tool.exe.
  2. Press Properties.
  3. Click on General.
  4. At the bottom, click on Unblock.
  5. Press Apply, and then OK.

Let us know how it goes and if you need further assistance, feel free to post back.

There was no "unblock" to click in Properties/General.

However, right-clicking on the application and selecting "run as administrator" fixed the problem.

Hi, interestingly enough, following the comments to http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/media-creation-tool-error-0x80072f76-20017/ I  changed the DNS to 9.9.9.9 and it worked!

it looks like just a DNS record propagation issue on their end.....  which they have failed to identify and fix in a month!!!!!

that explains why tons of people around the world have the issue but not everyone

those guys at Microsoft are probably thinking it's all right just because they sit on their own DNS.......

I agree we need a fix, especially for those that dont read the forum and/or are less technical to find work arounds (eg my mom).

Im guessing that this may be a USA issue and downloading the ISO from outside the USA may have been the answer with your VPN but I dont know why. (see below where guessing gets you....)

I'm in Italy connected to the incumbent operator TIM with a 300Mbps fiber and it doesn't work either.... changed user agent on Opera and downloaded the ISO

it is unbelievable how Microsoft is slow to pick up when a problem is on their end, even after a ton of user complaints and even a clear diagnosis of the problem (intermittent reachability of Microsoft servers).........
