As with many others, there was no "unblock" option available; that appears to have ceased being an option with the latest upgrade. Running as Administrator results in the same error message and code.
The digital signature on the copy of MediaCreationTool.exe that I downloaded today is dated Friday, September 29, 2017 6:41:06 AM. It is now November 12, over 14 days have passed since the first post in this thread, yet Microsoft has not released an
updated version of MediaCreationTool.exe. I cannot conceive of a change in the OS so drastic that this could not be done in 14 days, if someone was assigned it as their priority.
I'm currently following Andre's process; I still have 2 hours until the download is complete.
However, as numerous others have pointed out, such a workaround should not be required.
It does not speak well of Microsoft to consider this an acceptable alternative to fixing the coding in their media creation tool.
To which I add, to make it work, we are forced to be liars, to deceive Microsoft into thinking we are using a non-Windows OS.
If lying to Microsoft is acceptable for this purpose, then it must be acceptable for other purposes in regard to Microsoft! Does Microsoft really want to set this precedent, that rather than fixing a basic problem regarding their OS, they would prefer that
their customers resort to subterfuge and chicanery?
I've hoaxed Microsoft's OS detection software into thinking I'm using a Mac; can one even install Windows 10 on a Mac? Why allow people who can't install the software on their current hardware download it, and not allow people with compatable hardware download
it? This does not make sense to me, at all.
This is not like the dispute over integration of Skype and Outlook such that you cannot use Outlook without also being active on Skype, which underlines a basic worldview conflict between Microsoft's upper level management and many of their business customers,
this impacts anyone who needs to do a grounds up reinstall or new install of Windows 10, which is a fundamental usability problem distinct from any questions concerning how tightly MS' various services should be integrated. If you can't obtain the software
to install the OS, you can't install the OS. I would think that fixing that would be a priority.
