For the past 6 days the volume bar has not gone away. I try to turn down the volume, but it gradually goes back to 100. The bar gets in the way, and the volume is way too loud. I've seen other people have had this same problem, but I haven't found a solution. I've restarted my computer, I've downloaded an updated audio driver, I've held down the audio buttons on my keyboard, but nothing helps.
I have a Windows 10, Inspiron 15-7579, 64 bit.

I just searched the interned for hours only to discover that it's not a software issue, but that there is a volume button on the side of the computer next to the power that I never noticed and it was STUCK. That was definitely my problem. It's still kind of stuck for me, but at least the volume icon went away. Hope this helps.

So I worked on this issue on and offf for weeks, even wiping out all installed software but going just short of a full reformat. I used the Windows option to wipe the computer clean of all files and applications. That did solve the issue but as I started re-installing my applications it returned. For me it was a free screen capture software install called iSpring. Once I removed that again my computer has been working fine with no volume bar issue. It was odd, I had that software program a couple of years and within the last few months something must have changed to cause a conflict.
I'm sure that's not everyone's issue but since this was such a challenge for me to solve I wanted to share.

One of the replies mentioned a wireless keyboard. I was having the exact problem here. If I go to an audio source my volume would automatically go to 100% and I could not turn it down. I have a Realtec HD driver. However, I started looking at my Logitech wireless keyboard as the source. Turns out the battery level was quite low. I plugged it up to charge and the issue immediately went away. Hope this helps some of you...
I have had this issue, on and off. Usually, I'd have to reboot the computer entirely. However, for myself anyway, I found a much easier fix! If/When the volume becomes stuck, if you have a wireless keyboard, as I do (Logitech K800, for me!), simply turn the power off and wait a few seconds. The volume bar on screen will disappear.
Then turn it back on, and the volume should stay at the level you put it at. I think it has something to do with some flaw using the keyboard volume buttons. When doing it manually via the little sound horn in the lower right-hand corner or via my wireless headphones, I never have the problem. Only when using the keyboard controls.
