Volume bar won't go away/volume stuck at 100

For the past 6 days the volume bar has not gone away. I try to turn down the volume, but it gradually goes back to 100. The bar gets in the way, and the volume is way too loud. I've seen other people have had this same problem, but I haven't found a solution. I've restarted my computer, I've downloaded an updated audio driver, I've held down the audio buttons on my keyboard, but nothing helps.

I have a Windows 10, Inspiron 15-7579, 64 bit.

I just searched the interned for hours only to discover that it's not a software issue, but that there is a volume button on the side of the computer next to the power that I never noticed and it was STUCK. That was definitely my problem. It's still kind of stuck for me, but at least the volume icon went away. Hope this helps.

    Hi Kacie,

The issue that you’ve encountered with the Volume bar can be caused by a software conflict. To isolate this concern, we suggest that you perform a clean boot. This will help us determine if there are third-party applications that may be causing it to stay on the screen. Please click **here**for the steps.

Once you’re in the clean boot environment, try to turn the volume down and it will allow you to do so. If you’ll encounter the same result, then, it could be that a has already occurred.

Note: After the troubleshooting, refer to this section: “How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting*” on the same* support article to boot the computer in normal setup once the issue has been resolved.

We'll wait for your update after trying the steps.

I have been having with problem for a little over a month.  Along with it comes other issues such as poor performance, can't switch between applications, freezing and more.  I have been researching solutions, clearing out programs, cleaning up my hard drive, tried the clean boot, all to no avail.  I finally did a full reset, which wiped out all files and programs, reinstalled Windows and the volume bar is still stuck at 100 and displayed in the upper left corner.  I am stumped.  Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Hi SuzanneAubrey,

There are a few possibilities that we'll need to sort out in order to determine if this is more of a hardware issue or a software issue that you experience with your computer. In order to determine what approach would be best to apply, I would like to know the following:

    • Have you tried performing a clean boot on your computer like what was suggested on the previous post?
    • Is the issue happening on a different user profile?
    • When do you get the volume bar, is it upon the computer starting up or is it when you change the volume?
    • Have you tried running your computer on safe mode?

I'll be waiting for your response to better assist you.
