For the past 6 days the volume bar has not gone away. I try to turn down the volume, but it gradually goes back to 100. The bar gets in the way, and the volume is way too loud. I've seen other people have had this same problem, but I haven't found a solution. I've restarted my computer, I've downloaded an updated audio driver, I've held down the audio buttons on my keyboard, but nothing helps.
I have a Windows 10, Inspiron 15-7579, 64 bit.

I just searched the interned for hours only to discover that it's not a software issue, but that there is a volume button on the side of the computer next to the power that I never noticed and it was STUCK. That was definitely my problem. It's still kind of stuck for me, but at least the volume icon went away. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem after the latest win10 update. I used 'troubleshooter' from the settings screen. The intel sound driver was uninstalled, I was prompted to reboot and the problem went away. It looks as if the Intel sound driver was reinstalled.
I had the same problem when I turned on the PC this morning. I ran the Volume troubleshooter in Windows 10 with no success. After reading the comments, I started to think this might be a sign that the computer is about to crash. But then I happened to check the two small plug-in speakers that I have behind the display. Turns out that one speaker had fallen over and the volume button turned itself up all the way. When I turned the volume on the speaker down, the problem immediately resolved itself. I feel pretty freakin' fortunate right now. I'm sure that everyone's issue won't resolve this easily, but thought I'd share my experience just in case it works for you.
Hi, I had the same issue recently on my Surface Pro 6. Whenever I tried to press the volume down button, it would instantly recharge to 100. I tried to change it manually by adjusting the bar on the screen but it would still recharge immediately to 100. I realised that it was my volume up button that was stuck down, so I gave it some oomph and it fixed itself and I could now freely change the volume.
This idea that there's a hardware issue, not as in a normal hardware issue, but as in a mechanical issue like a wire bing crimped, an errant flange, and so forth, is not what is happening to me.
I've found this to be connected every time to my Logitech wireless keyboard. If I pull the wireless USB receiver from laptop's USB port then the volume bar goes away. If I put new batteries in my wireless keyboard then the problem goes away. If I play with the volume and mute buttons on my wireless keyboard then the problem goes away.
So perhaps there are several ways this problem can happen.
