Feature update to Windows 10, version 1709 fails to install

Hi, I am trying to install the Creators Update on my computer, but it fails and has to recover every time I try. What system information should I post to help troubleshoot why the update continues to fail?

    Ok. what should I do NEXT?

    1. remove HDD
    2. attempt install again using bootable USB?
    3. Where would I install windows 10?

    Yes, remove the HDD.

    Then, do what you did: wipe nothing & choose to install into the Windows partition. You get a clean install - a brand new Windows partition - but it will have a Windows.old folder that holds the prior Windows partition. Then, we can inspect & see what happened to the other partitions.

    Or - for a true clean install - wipe all the partitions at that "where do you want..." screen. Delete the partitions one by one. All that will be left is unallocated space. Select the unallocated space, & click next.

    Read through the Carmack post, & post any further question.

    The Carmack article is comprehensive, but boils down to...

    (1) Backup what you've now got, individual important files & even make a Windows system image.

    (2) Maybe download & keep critical device drivers like the display & network adapters at hand.

    (3) If you've got MS Office or 3rd-party apps that require a license, ensure you know how to reinstate it.

    After the final button is clicked on the clean install, it will be done in 24 minutes. Cortana asks for the Wi-Fi (written on the router) & MSFT account passwords only. For me, all the Dell/Intel/Realtek drivers came in automatically on their own. (Fine, a few of them constantly asked for a "reboot to complete" the install. But they had nevertheless installed, & all were functioning well. Those three all ceased their squawking after they were updated.)
