Hi, I am trying to install the Creators Update on my computer, but it fails and has to recover every time I try. What system information should I post to help troubleshoot why the update continues to fail?

Thanks!

-Andrew

    Thanks for reading.

anyway ASUS did acknowledge at some point that disabling SMART might do the trick.  From another user

"You should all know that the SMART disabling solution is recommended officially on Asus support page, FAQ section, starting with Dec. 21, 2017. See it here:

    https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1034929"

I read the URL. I do see your G502VT is mentioned. Well (I really don't know, but)...

    (a) I'm unsure disabling the SMART self-test constitutes disabling all of SMART.

    (b) I'm unsure that UEFI setting applies beyond the boot process.

    (c) I'm unsure everyone should do it instead of just those who couldn't upgrade.

    (d) I wish the article mentioned a specific error message the condition would produce.

    (e) I wish the article said whether to turn it back on after the upgrade is complete.

I think your problem is a malformed BCD. And I'd rather have SMART ON than OFF. But - I guess - leave that setting OFF at least until the upgrade has worked.

OK, now I'll go research the BCDBoot command a bit. Before bed, I'll post instructions.

You are welcome. Let me have a quick look around for anyone who suffered badly after doing a BCDBoot. If none are found, I'll give you the final instructions.

My problem has been solved after installation of KB4057291 and afterwards KB 4073290 and KB4058258.
