Feature update to Windows 10, version 1709 fails to install

It's a pity you can't detach the d:\drive. That might prove to be a bug-a-boo. Windows might seek to put it into your BCD as a dual boot. It might get confused with the extra recovery & system partitions. Anyway...

I've found something regarding "The parameter is incorrect" that BCDEdit spits out. That error message you got in...

It says to regenerate the entire BCD. Possibly, I was going to cure it, anyway, bit by bit. But I guess let's try it this way, since we can restore what you've got, if necessary. Yours are GPT disks as seen in the pictures you posted earlier. So, we'll do the GPT option. Also, we need to assign a letter to your system partition for that to work.

But definitely we want to make a backup BCD first. So:  MD  C:\BU

That will make a folder named BU. Or, do it in File Explorer. Then, the /Export will work. Sorry - I was sure it auto-created the folder for me before - but I see now it does not.

Also definitely we want to be sure you can get to the Command Prompt of external media for recovery, if necessary. Did you see the little exercise I posted above to boot recovery media? Do that first. Then I will show

you how to put a letter on the system partition.

Yes, your boot order is correct now. You've got the Windows Boot Manager (bootmgr) on top.

So, perhaps you could try listing each entry too?  Ah.  I see we already have that and badmemoryaccess is only referenced in {memdiag}.  But you do have {badmemory} in your GlobalSettings.  So what if you removed that item from there; perhaps there is a test to verify that badmemoryaccess is used (one way or another) if badmemory is referenced?

BTW while researching this I found out that the value I have (e.g. Yes) means the "bad memory" can be used!  So, why would I need to change it?   ; )

You did well to set bootmgr to be first in the UEFI boot order screen. The next step will be to regenerate your entire BCD with "BCDBoot". It also will replenish the system partition...

However, I want you first to make a backup BCD file & to check that you can access it in the recovery environment. It isn't good to write files directly to the C:\ root folder. So, first let us make a folder named "BU". Either make it using File Explorer, or enter the following at a Command Prompt (Admin)...

MD  C:\BU

That makes a folder named BU into the C:\ root folder. After that, the /Export will work...

BCDEdit  /Export  "C:\BU\BCD Backup"

After that, check whether you can access it at the Command Prompt of external media. Like I posted above...

(a) Boot a Recovery USB drive or a Win 10 Installation media.

      If to the Installation media, choose "Repair this computer" (instead of to install).

(c) At the "Choose an option" screen, click "Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Command Prompt".

(d) At the Command Prompt, type:   DIR  C:\BU  /a

                                        Also type:   BCDEdit

Do you see the files listed? If not, I guess try letter D:, in case they have switched. Sometimes, the drive letters are different in the recovery environment. Which letter gave you the files? Did you get output for BCDEdit, (just to prove it is there)?If/when necessary, to recover the backup BCD, you would enter:  BCDEdit  /Import  "C:\BU\BCD Backup"

(e) Close the Command Prompt, & click "Continue" to return.

I can't say it any better than that. After it is done, I'll tell you the rest. But come back with a signed affidavit that it has been done! And I want the broomstick of the wicked witch of the southeast!

We'll have to put a letter onto your system partition, do a BCDBoot, then remove the letter.

regarding w10 installation media. i have a 1703 ISO file. but my Laptop is at 1607. is that ok?
