Issues Updating from 1703 to 1709

Hi Ao.

         As previously explained the ORIGINAL WiFi Card became FAULTY.  I therefore replaced it with a better performance card, which you pointed out did not have specific Win 10 drivers.  I therefore changed the card to an *Intel N7260 (was originally incorrectly shown as N7360)*for which I installed the latest Win 10 drivers from Intel.  That card was used to download the Update, an update which the Windows 10 Normal Update System started almost immediately after my changing the card.  This update included with others was already being **downloaded and I had no way to pause, abort or otherwise delay while I still checking the drivers for Intel Storage Controller and the Sound Card.  

**Last night there was long period of problems with my ISP and the BACKGOUND UPDATE STOLE MY TOTAL BANDWIDTH.  It also made it impossible fro me to run the Report Software used by my ISP, which will only work properly without any other LAN traffic regardless of source.  While writing this I find yet another bloody update has been download and wants a Restart. -- this changed way of updates maybe OK for any 9 to 5 office environment or anyone who leaves their machine on during out of use hour, but I hope for my great- grandchildren to have a planet supporting human life.   I am retired and I use the laptop when I have time to play with my various interests between caring for bedbound wife and handling my own problems as severely disabled geriatric.  Earning money by working has not been possible since before Christmas due to a series of factors, the 1709 update among them.

I really hope you are not suggesting my Laptop failed the update because it does not have the ORIGINAL make and model of WiFi Card, which was a piece of junk even when new!   After a number of Dell PCs I can tell you I will not be buying Dell again as their normal consumer machine are lousy build quality.  It does not have the original mother board or keyboard either as both were replaced with the first couple of months.

We understand that the built-in wireless network card of your computer is not working. It is possible that the new wireless network card that you've installed on the computer is having a conflict with the other components. This is the reason why we're recommending you to use the built-in wireless network card. This is for us to verify is you'll be able to install the version 1709 update. If the built-in wireless network card is not working, you can temporarily connect to the Internet using a wired connection so that the computer can download the update.

Kindly let us know if you're able to install the update while the third party wireless network card is removed and while connected to the Internet using a wired connection.

AO, There appears to be languge problem here. I used the built in WiFi Card, it just not the origal one.

The N7260 (was originally incorrectly shown as N7360) is built in and working totally satisfactory and it downloaded the Update, the last update.  Downloading the 1709 Update by Ethernet connection will not change the built in components.

ARE  YOU SUGGESTING I DOWNLOAD A NEW COPY HAVIN REMOVED THE WIFI CARD.  The card is situated under the keyboad, not from a panel on the bottom, but i will strip it off again if you think this is answer. I think i may still have the original and could maybe refit it but I think a malfuntioning card would cause a problem. I changed to the current card beause you wanted Win 10 drivers even though that card was good with the 1703 Update.

I had a problem initally with the 1703 but that was a missing prior update, not hardware!

Hi yet again AO,

                   I have removed the WiFi Card and attached a working ethernet cable to the PC and restarted the Update as occurs twice now under Updates.  I have to tell you that it has again failed to install and is winding back to the original version.

        You must surely have taken in the fact that the WiFi card is not the cause of this as a result of this further failure which I thought was a bit of straw catching anyway.   Who knows what damage this latest failure has done that I need to repair to get it working reliably again.

        It is my intention to modify a CLONE of my Windows 10 to as near a vanilla version as I can, currently a usb3 **SSD and swap it for the HDD to allow the update/s to work on it.   As a usb3 device the current Win 10 design restrictions will not allow me to Update a NON Enterprise OS (an obstacle for which someone has an answer but I don't need that hurdle right now).  I may need parts to accomplish this, which will not be tomorrow or even next week, but I will do it because I feel I can no longer risk my working OS.  

       I would have liked to send you some screen shots showing the way my OS and partitions and associated files are set up but there is no way via Answers.

My Win 10 with all Software runs obviously on the C:/ partition

All my Files, including .pst from Outlook 2010, FAX, Dropbox, One Drive, Documents, Music, Pictures & Videos Folders are moved and located in F:/

I use a T:/ partition for all Temporary files including the Downloads folder.

Using partition letters associated with the contents makes it easier for me to accessing, backing up and otherwise working with the shared files when accessing from other devices.

        **I bought the usb3 SSD from which to run the various early builds of Win10 prior to final release.  Tried the same with Win 8 but it was too slow from a usb2 HDD which was all I had available then.

      I ASK AGAIN, WHAT IS SO DIFFERENT FROM THE 1703 UPDATE THAT IT IS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM FOR ME WITH 1709?

      The 1703 update failed initially because one update was missing.  That History has been wiped by the 1709 update attempts as has all the other later updates regardless of condition!  I know all the latest about the final Major Update not being dependent upon missing updates as they are supposed to cover all previous minor updates, BUT OBVIOUSLT NOT.  I have had a look at my Feedback but cannot find a reference, there so I must have included it as a related problem with something else regarding Updates

       ARE THERE INDIVIDUAL UPDATES WHICH FORM THE 1709 AVAILABLE?   Some way to reduce the mountain to a mole hill and enable location of the precise problem.  You obviously don't think the Windows Error Reports worth hanging on the toilet wall for reuse, otherwise you would have asked for them.

If that is the case, there is a possibility that there is an issue with components of Windows Update. We mentioned in our previous reply that you can reset the Windows Update components to resolve the issue. Just to verify, did you already reset the components? If not, we recommend that you do so. This will clear all of the Windows Update files so that it can download the update again with a clean slate. You can refer to our previous reply to know how to reset the Windows Update components.

Let us know if you were able to update after resetting the Windows Update components.
