I apologize for this late reply to the community.  I am pleased to say that the problem seemed to resolve itself with an automatic download the next day. I suspect that an overnight shutdown allowed the automatic process to function properly the next day. Although the Windows Installed Update History has failed to record that Version 1709 had been successfully installed after this automatic download, a cumulative update for 1709 was subsequently successfully installed and recorded to provide me with the basic clue that the Fall Creators Update download and installation had been successful.

    David

    Hello,

If you are unable to update to the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, it could be due to a corrupted download of the update, or that an application or process is blocking the update from installing to your computer. Before we proceed in troubleshooting, we would like to know some information about the issue that you are experiencing when updating to Windows 10 Fall Creators Update version 1709. Kindly respond to the questions below:

    1. Can you tell us the exact error that you get when updating to Windows 10 version 1709? If possible, kindly post a screenshot.
    2. Can you describe to us what troubleshooting steps have you done so far? This is for us to know and to avoid any duplication of efforts on your end.

We look forward to your response.

We appreciate the information you provided. The error code that you get is commonly caused by interference by other programs that are running on the computer. Since you mentioned that you are not using any third-party antivirus programs, the problem might be due to compatibility of the computer to the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update version 1709. Can you tell us if you have checked the manufacturer's website for your computer model to check and determine if it is compatible with that version of Windows 10?

On a lighter note, you may also check this Forum Article created by Andre Da Costa to determine if your computer is compatible with Windows 10 version 1709.

We look forward to an update from you.

Check your records. I have been on with microsoft support several times now and have gotten NO help because they want to re-install it or my os again. My os has been re-installed by micrsoft 3 times this year. I should not have to reload the os this many times and especially in one year...you all need to get off your thumbs and create WORKING updates instead of releasing garbage!!!
