Hello tom.wildes, I’ll be answering your question.
This is a new feature which arrived with the fall update/upgrade, there is no way currently to turn it off but if you close all open programs they shouldn’t then reopen upon restarting.
I have every program closed, but, unbeknownst to me, Microsoft keeps its own Microsoft Word running somewhere in deep background. So, when I turn on the computer, I get 4 or 5 editions of MS Word trying to open some damn dumb template. It is a pain to close
them every time I start the computer. (It reminds of that scene in the Harry Potter movie when all of the pots start replicating themselves in the vault in Gringots.)
My only solution is to open task manager just before I shut down my computer. I then look the "Details" tab and delete all entries for MS Word. What a stupid pain, but that is the only way I get the fresh start that I should get when I start my computer,
without having to spend the first 5 minutes shutting down these crazy re-starts of MS. Word.
I am sure someone loves this feature, but it is a total pain to me. Please hurry up with an option to turn this feature off.
