We couldn't finish installing updates (KB4074588), error 0x80070bc2

If you are currently experiencing the 0x80070bc2 error while attempting to install KB4074588, please try this:

1. In the search box on the taskbar, type cmd.
2. Right-click Command Prompt in the search results and select Run as administrator.  (Select Yes, when prompted by the User Account Control.)
3. In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter:

SC config trustedinstaller start=auto 4. Restart the PC.

In some cases, a second restart may be required. If you look under Settings > Update & security and you see the message Status: Awaiting restart, restart the PC a second time to complete the installation.

After two months trying to find a solution and having my computer restarting itself in the worse possible hours... this command worked fine for me.

I had to restart the computer twice, btw.

I had this problem for more than 2 months, my computer was trying to restart itself in the worse possible hours and the update did not get installed at all ! I have been looking for a solution and could not find it.

This simple "SC config trustedinstaller start=auto" (what does this mean btw) fixed the problem after 2 restarts.

I forgot to mention that I tried to run the command "SC config trustedinstaller start=auto" in the Powershell command line with admin privileged but I could not get it to work, however when I tried the Old DOS command line with admin privileged it worked immediately.  I did not know their was that much difference between the new one and old one.  From now on it is only the Old DOS command line for me.

This helped me a great deal. After 3 days of trying to get Windows Update to install after it downloaded an update that required a reboot I finally was able to get it to work with this instruction.  

This had nothing to do with the KB file he listed but many others requiring a reboot that would not install after rebooting. 

I tried everything that I could find including renaming folders and running MS tools, nothing worked except this instruction.  I was on the edge of reinstalling, a fate that as we all know is Honorable to contemplate. MS needs to work on it's "Windows Update" program.
