SIM PIN2 to unlock mobile broadband device

I've been having the same problem the last year or more.  I don't use the cellular connection often but this time I decided to find out why it wasn't working.  I have a Thinkpad P50 with Windows 10 and the latest Windows updates.  I downloaded and installed Lenovo's latest WAN drivers.  After calling Verizon Wireless support and enabling/disabling options, rebooting, changing the sim pin, etc. it worked for a day.  Verizon support at least tried sincerely to resolve the issue.  The next day however I was back to clicking on the Cellular button and nothing happening.  Clicking on the Wi-Fi, Airplane Mode and Mobile Hotspot buttons toggled on/off as they should.  Next I called the clowns at Lenovo support (which is where the buck should stop) with little help.  They knew little to none about the internal WAN card that was part of the original purchase from Lenovo directly.  The support person asked a series of questions from a prewritten list.  I could see the questions were geared to trying to say this internal WAN card was an aftermarket upgrade and not their responsibility, however I stuck to my guns.  I could not get the case elevated to the next level.  Their final solution was to send a replacement WAN card since I had onsite service.  In the mean time I started searching the Internet seeing I wasn't alone with this issue and that many others have been having the same problem for a few years.  What finally worked for me was installing the manufacturer's WAN card  software.  What this actually did was update the firmware on the WAN card.  Once this firmware was updated, everything worked like a charm.

You will have to select your carrier and either Windows or Linux and you may have to create an account to drill down but its free.  My frustration is that Lenovo support should have figured this out and not me especially since this has been an ongoing problem with many others.

I am still encountering the problem with SIM PIN2 which is annoying, but a simple restart from Windows power down /sleep mode (not even hibernate) fixes the problem. After a while the same problem occurs again, and a quick restart has it going again..

So, the problem still exists. Hard to know what is failing without source, and my guess is that the check for PIN2-check occurs on several places in the code and not all have been debugged. Somehow it seems as the check is inverted. If PIN2 IS enabled on SIM-card the Windows error do not occur, but then the SIM-card doesn't let the connection through. Do obvious the error is probably not that complicated, just not completely handled yet.
