Spotify app makes system restore fail

thanks for your suggestion and that is sincere.  Unfortunately it's greek to me and that is not your fault.  For security reasons I would never perform these steps based on an unknown person's recommendation.  (I might try something simpler that I understand.) 

We should be hearing from an official microsoft software tech with an official microsoft answer. Not from unverifiable sources.

You won't see ..."an official microsoft software tech..." here.  This is a peer-to-peer community with little to no participation from direct Microsoft employees.

There are well over one billion Windows installations worldwide.  There are not nearly enough qualified technicians alive and breathing to service a population that large.  The chances are very good that any advice you might get from an "official" Microsoft source will be lacking in some way, and none of this should be surprising.  This community exists to help to fill those gaps, and the advice you get here is most likely better than you can get from Microsoft, and will come more quickly.

For folks following along: these commands basically amount to a folder rename (the first few commands give you permissions to perform the rename).

I tried this and got "System restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed.". Didn't get any mention of Spotify, but rather the following:

System restore failed to extract the original copy of the directory from the restore point. 

Source: %ProgramFiles%\WindowsApps

Destination: AppxStaging

The restore point was damaged or was deleted during the restore."

Planning to revert the commands. You didn't get this when you tried? And it didn't say "System restore did not complete successfully"?

thanks wolfmanstout.  I didn't try the solution suggested by stefanrondinelli and based on your experience I'm glad I didn't.  despite Jimwynne's recommendation of the forums as a substitute for good microsoft aftermarket support, my experience is that the quality of recommendations from the forums is random at best and as likely to be a complete waste of time or even worse.  I won't try any solution recommended by the forums  i cannot completely understand prior to trying it after researching it.

I'm glad you understood it and tried it and am sorry it didn't work and now you have to revert what you did even if it didn't take you that long.

I think the best solution is to stop using and  paying for microsoft office when my subscription ran out and using google docs instead until microsoft provides an official solution to this system restore problem.
