Spotify app makes system restore fail

I think I'v installed the Spotify app from the Microsoft store three times over the last months, and every time I get the same effect: system restores are no longer possible:

So that's a reason for me not to use the app anymore, although for the rest, it works as a charm!

Anyone any idea why the Spotify app and System Restore are incompatible?

    Hi,

I have the exact issue as the above user. I attempted deleting the app from the Windows Store, running shell commands to repair corrupt files in the c: drive and running system restore in safe mode, with no results.

In my experience, the restore points made when the Spotify app was installed on the machine, are unusable, even after uninstallation of the Spotify app.

But, when the Spotify app is uninstalled, and you create new restore points, these restore points are OK and can be used to do a system restore.

Thank you for the information. Since you've already uninstalled the application, kindly install it back from the Windows Store so that we are sure that we are uninstalling it as a whole. After that, go to Settings > Apps & features > click on the app you want to uninstall and select Uninstall.

If the issue persists, use Powershell with Administrator rights for removal. Type Powershell in Cortana search and right-click it, then select Run as Administrator. See the example (uninstalling the Microsoft Solitaire Collection) below:

    1. Type in the Powershell Get-AppxPackage *solitairecollection* and press Enter. A series of information will appear.
    2. Copy the PackageFullName.
    3. Type Remove-AppxPackage and press Enter.
    4. After that, paste the PackageFullName, then press Enter.
    5. Search the application using the Cortana search bar to confirm if it's gone.

    Inform us of the result.

I just faced the same issue on Windows 10 1709 16299.192

All system restore points created while Spotify app from Microsoft store was installed are in unusable state.

    Some other symptoms:

    • I was unable to uninstall Spotify app. Clicking Uninstall in start menu didn't do anything, and Spotify was not on the Programs list, both in settings and control panel.
    • I was able to uninstall Spotify app only in Safe Mode.
    • System restore points didn't work even after uninstalling Spotify app.

P.S: This is scary. Probably I'll avoid any Microsoft Store app in the future. It doesn't make sense that system restore is effected by apps from the store. Isn't the whole point Store apps are isolated as in mobile OS's?
