Spotify app makes system restore fail

I think I'v installed the Spotify app from the Microsoft store three times over the last months, and every time I get the same effect: system restores are no longer possible:

So that's a reason for me not to use the app anymore, although for the rest, it works as a charm!

Anyone any idea why the Spotify app and System Restore are incompatible?

    thanks Jim.  (hard to believe there is no microsoft monitoring of the forums--sure indicates disdain of retail customer service, but i guess that shouldn't surprise me or anyone else.)

    Does anyone know where to go to ask for official microsoft response efficiently?

    There are well over one billion Windows installations worldwide.  There are not nearly enough qualified technicians alive and breathing to service a population that large.  The chances are very good that any advice you might get from an "official" Microsoft source will be lacking in some way, and none of this should be surprising.  This community exists to help to fill those gaps, and the advice you get here is most likely better than you can get from Microsoft, and will come more quickly.

    thanks for your suggestion and that is sincere.  Unfortunately it's greek to me and that is not your fault.  For security reasons I would never perform these steps based on an unknown person's recommendation.  (I might try something simpler that I understand.) 

    We should be hearing from an official microsoft software tech with an official microsoft answer. Not from unverifiable sources.

    You won't see ..."an official microsoft software tech..." here.  This is a peer-to-peer community with little to no participation from direct Microsoft employees.

    If you rename the WindowsApps folder, the restore will work.

    Use a shell and do the following:

    • Go to the location of the WindowsApps folder
    • Run "takeown /f WindowsApps"
    • Run "icacls WindowsApps /grant Administrators:F
    • Run "attrib WindowsApps -S -h"
    • Run "rename WindowsApps WindowsAppsOld"

    Redo the restore. It will still say that there is a problem with ...\WindowsApps\Spotify.exe but the restore will work anyway.
