After one of the recent upgrades to Windows 10, my Dell Laptop brightness is off the charts. I can find no way to adjust it. The function buttons no longer work. Under settings, the display setting provides no adjustment for brightness. I've read online about others having this problem a few years ago; I haven't found anyone talking about it as a recent issue. I have tried the fixes that were listed; none of them have worked. Please Help.

Press Windows key + X
Click Device Manager
Expand Display adapters
Right click the current display adapter
Click Properties
Click Driver tab
Click Rollback driver if the option is available
If not
Right click the current display adapter
Click Uninstall
Check the box that says, "Delete the driver software for this device.”
Exit Device Manager
Restart
Go to Start -> Settings -> Update & security, then Check for updates and install any available updates.

for the time being I am using other feature of windows i.e NIGHT LIGHT, unless this issue is not resolved.

I solved this issue please follow steps as described;
I resolved this issue by Hit & trial method, I did as all MS representatives said but nothing happened. Then I uninstalled all my display drivers and installed old version driver that was for windows-7. But its working I am finally now able to adjust my brightness.
No updated driver helped me..!
I had the same brightness control issue on my laptop after May 2018 Windows 10 update. I followed the advice in this page (uninstall and erase the video driver). The screen went immediately black. After waiting some time, I had to force an hard reboot. The system started in advanced maintenance mode and after a few attempts and reboots it wasn't able to find an alternate video driver. So I tried a restore from a recent restore point, but it failed. Then I tried a full system reset, but it failed as well. I'm still in maintenance mode looking for options. Any help to get out? Thanks.
Just connect your monitor to external display and turn on your laptop and install display driver again as soon it will get installed your OS will detect your laptop display.
I have also done the same :D
Mine problem not also solved about brightness issue. Just waiting for the fix.
