TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208GB not working after Fall Creators Update installed

When the Windows 10 Fall Creators update tried to install it corrupted my boot drive so I had to download the image from Microsoft and do a clean install on my MSI laptop. After the clean install of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, everything seems to be working fine except for my optical disc drive. It is a TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208GB with firmware level TM01 installed. It was working fine previously. The device shows up in Device Manager and everything says the device is working normally, has the latest correct driver, etc. When I put a disc in the drive, it will try starting up and then fall silent. I never see the optical disc drive on my windows desktop or in file manager. Any thoughts about what I can do to get this resolved?

    Dear PCR,

    I tried the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter and it did not report anything.

    I looked up and followed the steps for the 'clean boot' (disable all non-Microsoft services and disable all startup items in Task Manager). This had no effect. I still have the same symptoms, that is, I can read audio CDs fine but Windows refuses to mount a DVD.

    What could be causing this behavior in Windows???

    Can you check the following registry key?:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    At that registry key, in the right window, is there, under "Name", either an UpperFilters or LowerFilters value?

    If so, for each of the UpperFilters and/or LowerFilters value, what is listed under "Data"?

    I checked the registry using regedit. I do not see any UpperFilters or LowerFilters value:

    If I remember correctly (it has been a while back), Microsoft published a bulletin suggesting that the UpperFilters and LoweFilters values be deleted.
