TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208GB not working after Fall Creators Update installed

16299 is 1709. Here is 1803 (though apparently the date is unchanged)…

What makes you think you upgraded? (But it really should work in 1709 too). Let us consider this...

That can be done with an ISO or with Installation Media. In all cases, you boot to Windows, open the media in File Explorer (or click the ISO) & click Setup.exe. (It ran a bit over an hour to lift me to 1803. It did create a Windows.old - but I'm unsure it was full-fledged, didn't seem big enough when I first looked at it.)

But - I wonder - what will it do, if you've already got a C:\Windows.old? Do you have one now? Will it even seek to create one, if you are doing a repair (over-installing the same version) instead of an upgrade? Normally, that holds the prior OS version & normally will be deleted by Windows in as little as 10 days after the upgrade. Or it can be deleted with Disk Cleanup.

I have no idea where that rascal came from but it is gone. No change in behavior.

Dear PCR,

I did not recheck after the 1803 update. You are correct, the optical disc drive driver has the same date but the version is now 10.0.17124.1. 

Also, when I go to PC Settings => Update & Security => View update history, the last two updates listed are Feature update to Windows 10, version 1803, Successfully installed on 5/4/2018 and Update for Microstof Outlook 2010 (KB4022144) 64-Bit Edition, Successfully installed on 5/4/2018.

I have also gone through the full repair installation - everything short of another clean installation, which is what I did with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (1709) and THAT is when the issue started. I would really rather not go through that again as it took me the better part of a full day to reinstall all of my applications and get everything working properly again (except for the optical disc drive(s) of course).

I have checked all of the Microsoft boards that I could find and done all of the updates and corrections specified, including the removal of the upper and lower filters in the registry.

Is there anything else we can try?

I did not check after the 1803 update. You are correct, the driver is updated. I also verified in the Windows Update History that I am now running 1803.

I have already tried doing a repair installation and everything else recommended to me, including the removal of the upper and lower filters keys in the registry. Nothing has worked.

The last clean install took me over a day to get everything reinstalled and working (with the exception obviously of the optical disc drives).

Is there anything else that can be done????

OK. You did do the upgrade (my biggest hope), & it was no cure. Also, you went through that article Janeane posted up front, & it was no cure. You updated some drivers & deleted the rascal elbycdio.sys (which I don't have).

All the drivers interrelate. Compare what is at the site against Device Manager. If a greater version is at the site, first try to get it through Device Manager (search automatically). If that fails, take it from the site. I see you already have taken the latest BIOS "E1782IMS.122, 3/15/2018]" - what about all the other drivers, especially other firmware drivers?
