TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208GB not working after Fall Creators Update installed

Dear Sirs,

I am not sure if my last email made it to you or not. Outlook.com sent me a delivery error message.

In the mean time, I did try updating the Intel SATA driver to the latest version but it did not affect anything.

As indicated in my last email, it has been a while since we spoke, but I had a major family matter that I was forced to attend to...

I have checked and I find that a) the system will boot fine from my Win7 Pro installation DVD and it plays back audio CDs with no problem. This seems to indicate that the hardware is working. Just to make doubly sure, I purchased an external optical drive (USB powered, connected via USB3 port). It also plays audio CDs fine but I cannot see a DVD on this drive or the internal drive.

I would really like to know what else I can do to resolve this!

Are you saying...?...

(1) You can boot to an Installation DVD through BIOS/UEFI just fine.

(2) You can insert an audio CD, & it will play just fine. (Does it also show up in File Explorer?)

(3) But a data DVD/CD will not spin or show up in File Explorer.

I just put a blank one in & got a pop-up stating "select to choose what happens to blank DVDs" - but it was too quick for me. It showed up in File Explorer, & a double-click produces a requestor asking what to do with it.

I'm not sure what's up in your case, but are you aware 1803 is available now...?...

Download Windows 10  -  Currently, this is version 1803

Make a USB or DVD Installation Media that matches your Edition (Home, Pro, etc), Language, & Architecture (64-bit/x64 or 32-bit/x86). And/or make an ISO. Then upgrade to it or clean install it.

How tough was it to do the clean install of 1709?

Yes, I have to set the UEFI to legacy to boot the Windows 7 Pro DVD, but it boots fine.

If I insert an audio CD into either optical drive, it pops up "select ... audio cds" and works just fine. Yes it displays correctly in file explorer.

When I insert a DVD into either optical drive, both drives are visible in file explorer, but do not show a DVD mounted. Properties does not show a disc mounted. When I select the drive in file explorer, the drive pops open and I am prompted to insert a disc.

1709 was not bad to do a clean install. Unfortunately, it crashed and corrupted my drive during the initial upgrade which is why I had to do the clean install.

My system is current, including the 1803 update. Still cannot play or even see a DVD optical disc on my computer.

Dear PCR,

Just to clarify, a clean install of 1709 was not bad, but it was a ROYAL pain to reinstall ALL of my applications. I am a software engineer and have a LOT of things installed on my system. I would like to get a fix that will resolve this issue with my optical drives not mounting a DVD. Based on my previous experience, another clean install is not going to resolve the problem.

Can you try uninstalling the software that would have installed the elbycdio.sys -there are some of these programs listed in the following link:
