TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208GB not working after Fall Creators Update installed

When the Windows 10 Fall Creators update tried to install it corrupted my boot drive so I had to download the image from Microsoft and do a clean install on my MSI laptop. After the clean install of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, everything seems to be working fine except for my optical disc drive. It is a TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208GB with firmware level TM01 installed. It was working fine previously. The device shows up in Device Manager and everything says the device is working normally, has the latest correct driver, etc. When I put a disc in the drive, it will try starting up and then fall silent. I never see the optical disc drive on my windows desktop or in file manager. Any thoughts about what I can do to get this resolved?

    That is wonderful news & coming just as my head was nearly empty.

    Well - make a Windows system image now, at  "START, Settings, Update & Security, Backup, Go to Backup & Restore (Win 7)", in case the problem recurs or the next problem is even worse. Make the Repair Disc to restore it with, or ask Cortana for "Recovery Drive" to make it on USB. Also, see...

    Note: That is a 3rd-party site. Sounds good, but I know nothing of any link or download there.

    Or at least ask Cortana for "Restore", & make a restore point. But eventually it will get old.

    Dear auggy,

    Well, I have absolutely no idea why, but suddenly both the internal AND external DVD drives are working fine!?!?!?!?

    Well, I am not sure why, but the DVD now seems to be working on both the internal and external drives?!?!?!?

    (1) I'm hoping auggy is onto something with elbycdio.sys. Have you done a full search in File Explorer & in RegEdit for "elbycdio". What was discovered? What folder holds the elbycdio stuff? Can you tell what app created the folder? That app is a good candidate for uninstall.

    When I place a CD/DVD disc or switch another disc on my optical drive, the system doesn't load the disc automatically and still shows the content from the previous disc, what should I do?

    Unfortunately, you've already done the cure - update the BIOS. But - if the update was done after you last fiddled with drivers - maybe go into Device Manager & have it uninstall & then reinstall the DVD driver. I do know you've got the right driver.

    (3) If the DVD media won't be read in either DVD drive - can the  media be defective? Have you tried inserting a blank DVD? It should ask what to do with it. What about the Win 7 Installation DVD? You can boot to it. What happens when you insert it after boot to 1803?  OK - I see that other answer now.
