Go to the Microsoft START button and right click.  Then left click on PowerShell (admin).  PowerShell is very close to CMD (admin) but has one quirk.

To get the SC command to work in PowerShell, you need to enter SC.EXE instead of just SC.  Type the rest of the command just as you've seen it in the postings above.

I just hate when Microsoft assumes that every single Windows user has to be a computer savvy.

If I had to learn how to resolve every single issue that has been caused for these endless stream of failed updates, I would have become a Computer Engineer myself, instead of wasting my time relying on every single fix on these forums.

We the consumers deserve better. Shame on you Microsoft for making users lives even more complicated with all your pathetic Windows 10 crap...

Isn't there an easier fix. Why must every Microsoft fix require typing in long strings of cryptic info? Why are all the "cumulative updates" failing? Even the name "cumulative updates" give this impression of an overly complex situation. My "cumulative update" has failed 7 times over the last 7 evenings.

PLEASE FIX THIS.  This update has failed over 20 times.

Surely at least one Microsoft employee is smart enough to fix this problem.  A simple call to any of the people suffering from the problem would allow this one employee to see what's wrong.

SC config wuauserv start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config bits start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config cryptsvc start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config trustedinstaller start= auto [Press Enter]

reboot system
