Getting error 0x80070BC2 doing Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892)

This update has failed 21 times+. I have run trouble shooter and it is green.

Everything looks good until after the reboot. Stuck in a bad loop.

Event log:

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070BC2: 2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892).

Any help would be appreciated.

PLEASE FIX THIS.  This update has failed over 20 times.

Surely at least one Microsoft employee is smart enough to fix this problem.  A simple call to any of the people suffering from the problem would allow this one employee to see what's wrong.

open CMD as administrator, an type one by one:

SC config wuauserv start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config bits start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config cryptsvc start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config trustedinstaller start= auto [Press Enter]

reboot system

    I have the same issue. I have tried many times to install, and it fails every time. VERY frustrating :-/

    • This seems to have worked for me:
    • Right-click on Windows key and select Command Prompt (Admin).
    • Type the following commands in Command Prompt window. To execute them, press Enterafter each one. 

    SC config wuauserv start= auto

    SC config bits start= auto

    SC config cryptsvc start= auto

    SC config trustedinstaller start= auto

    • Finally, restart your PC and try to install the update that was previously returning the 0x80070bc2 error.

    I am getting same error code on 4088776

    This is ridiculous - I study this and all I get is that Microsoft has screwed up the Fall release - so many of us getting this loop of reboot, won't work, reboot, won't work

    WE WANT THIS FIXED

    I was having repeated failures on the Cumulative Update KB4056892 and then more recently the 2018-02 Cumulative Update KB4090913

    The suggested SC config settings (originally from DevonBasson) did not work reliably for me so eventually I resorted to uninstalling all of the previous updates that I was able to and then installing the latest updates.  That was about a week ago – after KB4088776 was released.

    Following that there has been no further attempt to install KB4056892 or KB4090913 that has now been superseded by KB4088776 that did install for me without any problem. Windows now says that it is up-to-date and “happy”, with no more updates attempting or failing to install.

    My impression is that MS created some errors a few months ago that are preventing the more recent updates from installing.

    So I suggest you delete all of the old updates that you can (not all of them have an uninstall facility) and start over.

    I made a backup of my system and recovered it to a spare disc (a few times) so that I could experiment with various repair methods. Uninstalling was the only method that worked for me.
