Getting error 0x80070BC2 doing Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892)

This update has failed 21 times+. I have run trouble shooter and it is green.

Everything looks good until after the reboot. Stuck in a bad loop.

Event log:

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070BC2: 2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892).

Any help would be appreciated.

PLEASE FIX THIS.  This update has failed over 20 times.

Surely at least one Microsoft employee is smart enough to fix this problem.  A simple call to any of the people suffering from the problem would allow this one employee to see what's wrong.

open CMD as administrator, an type one by one:

SC config wuauserv start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config bits start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config cryptsvc start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config trustedinstaller start= auto [Press Enter]

reboot system

    The problem can be solved by

    open CMD as administrator, an type one by one:

    SC config wuauserv start= auto [Press Enter]

    reboot system

    How do I reverse this? After following these instructions, my machine won't boot.

    Can anyone tell me what the default values are for these settings?

    These settings allow the update to install, but the update puts me in unbootable state. If I go back to a restore point, the update installs immediately and I'm back in unbootable state.

    If I'm not mistaken, my services were set as stated below before using this procedure:

    BITS & CRYPTSRV  were AUTO_START

    WUAUSERV was DEMAND_START

    TRUSTEDINSTALLER - I'm not positive but I think it was DEMAND_START

    I don't think changing these service start types back to the original will solve your problem but I hope it does.

    If trying to install the update manually then i have one solution that will work right away.

    Although this may seem scary but we are basically hoing to reinstall windows.

    what you need to do is download the windows 10 media creation tool from here:

    UK

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

    US

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

    once downloaded run the installer and you will have 2 options download an ISO etc and "Upgrade this pc".

    Even thought you may already have windows 10 what this will do is reinstall windows like if you upgraded from windows 7/8 and in the process will download any updates so when it installs it will have most updates (like the one that is causing you trouble). Just make sure that before you install you make sure the setting (keep my files) which should be automatically enabled is checked. once installed all of your problems should be gone!

    NOTE: one thing that is lost will be your desktip background so make sure you have a copy of that
