I tried two approaches in succession, not sure which one worked.
First, to clarify the above command set:
- I opened "Windows Powershell(Admin)" on my system
- Within Powershell I executed these commands (edited) in the following order:
" SC.EXE config wuauserv start= auto " [Press Enter]
" SC.EXE config bits start= auto " [Press Enter]
" SC.EXE config cryptsvc start= auto " [Press Enter]
" SC.EXE config trustedinstaller start= auto " [Press Enter]
rebooted the system
Second, I ran the user-created tool available on www.wureset.com / downloads.php - ran ALL steps from 1 thru 14, in that order.
RESULT - Upon the next opening of windows update my backlogged updates began to install. The only "pain" was that each install on my system ended with a restart, so I had to run the process iteratively 32 times. Spent the better part of the day
doing the Install/Restart process BUT in the end ALL of my failed updates were successfully installed. The running of Windows Update each time said that the most recent update had failed but DON'T let that stop you - the earlier one HAD been installed and
the restart showed a decrementing number of "steps", with each step being an update that had previously failed.
Good luck.
