This update has failed 21 times+. I have run trouble shooter and it is green.

Everything looks good until after the reboot. Stuck in a bad loop.

Event log:

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070BC2: 2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892).

Any help would be appreciated.

PLEASE FIX THIS.  This update has failed over 20 times.

Surely at least one Microsoft employee is smart enough to fix this problem.  A simple call to any of the people suffering from the problem would allow this one employee to see what's wrong.

EXTREMELY UNHAPPY.

Hi

open CMD as administrator, an type one by one:

SC config wuauserv start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config bits start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config cryptsvc start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config trustedinstaller start= auto [Press Enter]

reboot system

Hope this helps!

    Hi,

Since you're using an Intel processor, KB4056892 should properly install on the computer. There is a possibility that there is an issue with the system files of Windows Update. This can be the reason why you're unable to install the update. We've provided a link in our reply last 10th of January 2018. The link contains multiple methods that can usually resolve common update issue. Just to clarify, have you performed the steps found in that link? If not, we suggest that you do so.

    Keep us posted.

    Microsoft please address this issue

HP Envy 23-K350nj AIO PC (Intel based not AMD) that failed to boot after the first attempt to update KB4056892.  I had to do  a clean reinstall but that didn't help either,  I'm still dealing with the implications of this disastrous update that now fails to install.,  Argel Obm proposed in-place upgrade.  After a clean reinstall ?  Help us please with solution to this problem.

Tried it,  updates seemed to have worked (I had to restart many times),  KB4056892 appears  in the updates history  as successfully installed yet build version remained 16299.15 and windows updates keeps trying to install KB4056892 as if nothing happened.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for posting this, Mr. Bossak. This completely solved the problem for me after several reboots (as you later noted).  Anyone reading this should share this fix for many suffering Windows users with failed and repeating installs as described by the OP.
