Getting error 0x80070BC2 doing Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892)

This update has failed 21 times+. I have run trouble shooter and it is green.

Everything looks good until after the reboot. Stuck in a bad loop.

Event log:

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070BC2: 2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892).

Any help would be appreciated.

PLEASE FIX THIS.  This update has failed over 20 times.

Surely at least one Microsoft employee is smart enough to fix this problem.  A simple call to any of the people suffering from the problem would allow this one employee to see what's wrong.

open CMD as administrator, an type one by one:

SC config wuauserv start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config bits start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config cryptsvc start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config trustedinstaller start= auto [Press Enter]

reboot system

    I have the same problem: KB 4074588 fails to install with error code 0x80070BC2 (in Windows log files).  It just keeps wanting to update the same over and over.

    Now........ would manually downloading and manually installing the most recent cumulative update (April 10, 2018—KB4093112 (OS Build 16299.371)) solve this whole mess?  Seems reasonable.  Any thoughts?

    I agree this is ridiculous

    You can save the nightly reboot by going to "Restart Options" in settings, set the restart to 5 or so days in the future, and remember to visit it once in a while

    But... MS has to fix this, it happened on my old PC, and now, a brand new laptop, SAME ISSUE - ridiculous and poor service from a paid OS providor

    Is there an acknowledgment from Microsoft that the problem is being worked on and if so, a fix forthcoming? It's not helpful to see the same suggested fixes over and over again, which aren't solving this problem. 

    I am also tired of my PC rebooting every night. Thank you.

    ernliz,

    You have absolutely nothing to lose by manually downloading.  It may or may not work.  This forum is full (and very large) of suggestions on how to solve the problem.  And, most, if not all, have helped some people.  The problem is you don't know ahead of time which scheme will work for you.
