This update has failed 21 times+. I have run trouble shooter and it is green.

Everything looks good until after the reboot. Stuck in a bad loop.

Event log:

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070BC2: 2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892).

Any help would be appreciated.

PLEASE FIX THIS.  This update has failed over 20 times.

Surely at least one Microsoft employee is smart enough to fix this problem.  A simple call to any of the people suffering from the problem would allow this one employee to see what's wrong.

EXTREMELY UNHAPPY.

Hi

open CMD as administrator, an type one by one:

SC config wuauserv start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config bits start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config cryptsvc start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config trustedinstaller start= auto [Press Enter]

reboot system

Hope this helps!

    Hello,

I have tried to get my command prompt to work in administrator mode but it will never open with the administrator command prompt written on top. When I try to enter the information you suggested above in regular command prompt it states it won't allow this action? I am having the same problem with windows trying to update with  error of 0X80070bcs. Computer keeps trying to restart to complete the update but it never can complete. Getting very frustrated.

As with several other replies in this thread, this fixed it for me. I only needed to change the start up behaviour of one service:

open CMD as administrator, and type

SC config trustedinstaller start= auto [Press Enter]

Then reboot your PC and after a number of further reboots, all updates were installed correctly.

I did as you suggested. It did not work.

The system still did a double restart again and on both retstarts it says it is installing updates.

    same error:

    2018-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4089848) - Error 0x80070bc9

    This does not work.

I downloaded the updated troubleshooter. It says there is an issue with the updates. It says it fixes them after you "apply fix" & tells you to restart.

Same issue: double restart & error:

    2018-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4089848) - Error 0x80070bc9

This double restart has been happening since November It is now April.

    The error is different.

I was having repeated failures on the Cumulative Update KB4056892 and then more recently the 2018-02 Cumulative Update KB4090913

The suggested SC config settings (originally from DevonBasson) did not work reliably for me so eventually I resorted to uninstalling all of the previous updates that I was able to and then installing the latest updates.  That was about a week ago – after KB4088776 was released.

Following that there has been no further attempt to install KB4056892 or KB4090913 that has now been superseded by KB4088776 that did install for me without any problem. Windows now says that it is up-to-date and “happy”, with no more updates attempting or failing to install.

My impression is that MS created some errors a few months ago that are preventing the more recent updates from installing.

So I suggest you delete all of the old updates that you can (not all of them have an uninstall facility) and start over.

I made a backup of my system and recovered it to a spare disc (a few times) so that I could experiment with various repair methods. Uninstalling was the only method that worked for me.
