This update has failed 21 times+. I have run trouble shooter and it is green.

Everything looks good until after the reboot. Stuck in a bad loop.

Event log:

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070BC2: 2018-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4056892).

Any help would be appreciated.

PLEASE FIX THIS.  This update has failed over 20 times.

Surely at least one Microsoft employee is smart enough to fix this problem.  A simple call to any of the people suffering from the problem would allow this one employee to see what's wrong.

EXTREMELY UNHAPPY.

Hi

open CMD as administrator, an type one by one:

SC config wuauserv start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config bits start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config cryptsvc start= auto [Press Enter]

SC config trustedinstaller start= auto [Press Enter]

reboot system

Hope this helps!

I just hate when Microsoft assumes that every single Windows user has to be a computer savvy.

If I had to learn how to resolve every single issue that has been caused for these endless stream of failed updates, I would have become a Computer Engineer myself, instead of wasting my time relying on every single fix on these forums.

We the consumers deserve better. Shame on you Microsoft for making users lives even more complicated with all your pathetic Windows 10 crap...

I tried two approaches in succession, not sure which one worked.

First, to clarify the above command set:

    1. I opened "Windows Powershell(Admin)" on my system
    2. Within Powershell I executed these commands (edited) in the following order:

         " SC.EXE config wuauserv start= auto " [Press Enter]

         " SC.EXE config bits start= auto " [Press Enter]

         " SC.EXE config cryptsvc start= auto " [Press Enter]

         " SC.EXE config trustedinstaller start= auto " [Press Enter]

         rebooted the system

Second, I ran the user-created tool available on www.wureset.com / downloads.php - ran ALL steps from 1 thru 14, in that order.

RESULT - Upon the next opening of windows update my backlogged updates began to install.  The only "pain" was that each install on my system ended with a restart, so I had to run the process iteratively 32 times.  Spent the better part of the day doing the Install/Restart process BUT in the end ALL of my failed updates were successfully installed.  The running of Windows Update each time said that the most recent update had failed but DON'T let that stop you - the earlier one HAD been installed and the restart showed a decrementing number of "steps", with each step being an update that had previously failed.

    Good luck.

    Laura,

The problem is that KB4088776 will never install if it has failed previously.

My advice is to uninstalled as many of the existing updates as possible (some do not have uninstall option). Go to   View installed update history  and then select Uninstall updates. After this start over with the latest updates. This is what I did and my system has no further problems to date.

Take a look at my post on March 20^th^ on page 11 of this thread.

    Hi,

The link that we've provided in our previous reply contains all the steps you need to follow to resolve the issue. The step that resolved the issue of ChuckHoffman1 is the in-place upgrade process. There may be an issue with the system files itself that is why he cannot install the KB4056892 update. To replace those files, he performed an in-place upgrade. This will re-install Windows 10 but it will not affect your files and folders. If you've already followed all the previous steps in the link, we recommend that you perform an in-place upgrade to resolve the issue.

We'll be waiting for the result.
