Taskhost is stopping ... device install reboot required

This registry change fixed it for me!!

• regedit to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WpnUserService"
• add a DWORD (32bit) "DelayedAutostart" and set it to 1
• add a DWORD (32bit) "AutoStartDelay" click on Decimal and set it for 60 (for 1 minute)

Many thanks for the fix.  It solved the close down problem and gave me access to the start button as well.  All is back to normal(whatever that is).

There is the problem. Please provide a solution, Microsoft. I have no new devices since I reinstalled Windows 10 on Sunday. There are no USB devices plugged in except mouse and Keyboard. A lot of people seem to be having this issue, so you cannot point to some random USB device.

After reading this thread, there is no doubt that this is a serious Microsoft Bug. I am going to reboot and try to take a picture of the task halt so you can see it, but stop asking for a Clean boot. When this first happened to me on Friday, I fiddled around with it. I thought it was a Microsoft Edge problem because it causes Edge to not open, even though it is open in Task Manager with 14 instances. I completely wiped the M.2 SSD on Sunday morning, re-partition and all that, and reloaded Windows 10. I also let it install every update.

On Monday night, it returned. I tried a fix I found for what I thought was the Edge problem, and I thought it was fixed. However, this evening, after being shut off all day, the issue returned.

I fear this could become a widespread bug because the Microsoft folks in here do not appear to be taking it seriously.

I will return with a picture of the screen when I restart.

• While I was not directed to do this, I have found the same problem.  I think that the order is reversed, but either way, they go together.  When I get the Task Host error, it is followed by the Menu and Cortana problems.
• I cannot get into settings or cortana.  Right click also doesn't work.
• I am running 1709 OS build 16299.125, on a 64 bit install.  Installing 1709 has been a disaster.  I have finally gotten to the point where I can load windows with Networking, and sharing working.  My PC is an ACER with last year's I5 processor - I did not expect compatibility issues with a recent machine.
• Task Host failed with this noted \Microsoft\windows\deviceDirectoryClient\RegisterUserDevice.
• Then it failed with Plug and play\device Install REboot Required.
• I think that another problem is related... I also found that SFC \scannow and DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth stopped working until I started Windows Modules Installer andrestarted
• Also, the site that suggested that also said that Net start trustedinstaller from cmd.exe at admin level, could do the same.

Since they also stopped again, I though that would fix the menu start and cortana and right click problems.  

I am about to try to reboot again.

I have the same problem. Is MS working on a fix?
