I know this thread is a bit on the old side as it is now the end of Aug 2018,
Firstly I want to give a background on this, so when Microsoft released the upgrade from windows 7, 8, & 8.1 to windows 10 i did not initially like it, then after a few updates it was running perfectly and I loved it. How ever my Motherboard died on my
gaming rig (was still under warrenty so i sent it in for repair but they had to send me a new board) so with a new board eventhough prior to me sending the old one to asus i was assured by both Microsoft and Asus that I would be able to reinstal windows 10,
riiiight guess everyone forgot how it ties into the hardware now. anyways so I had to go back to my windows 7 for a bit eventhough i could have ran windows 10 but with water marks and I woudlnt be able to personalize it.
So after running win 7 on both my son and my pc for a couple years I recently just baught him and I both legit windows 10 single pc use keys (the prcie was unbeatable), since then i installed it on both machines (had to keep installing and reinstalling like
three times cuase for some reason there was an issue after issue with the installations where things would not work correctly program wise), at any rate managed to get things "FUNCTIONAL" enough where we coudl do things and play our games or what have you.
all of a sudden I get the 2018 update, and nothing but crashes after crashes, on my rig n e ways not so much my sons that I know of yet
its like anytime there is a windows update my system freezes up prior to even downloading the update
steps i did before i came to the conclusion that its windows
- tried a clean instal of windows including all updated vid and audio and mobo drives, (all drivers were cleanly installed meeaning old one or windows versions were uninstalled system rebooted taken offline and reinstalled wiht standalones)
2.Ran cleaners (c-cleaner as well), disk defrags or optimzations, changed pwoer settings, changed processor usage in ms config from 1 to 8cores (yeah im running a big daddy),
- took my entire rig apart including processor, and reseated and reinstalled every piece of hardware and reset drivers and windows again
- installed new ram stix both reading as fine
- again messed wiht settings
I then noticed that after a freeze and i rebooted i checked windows update and noticed there was a update pending a download, still not putting 2&2 together, and jsut for hahas, I tried to do the exact same things i was doing again and again freeze, again
another update
anyways just happened to me again
none of these issues of freezeing up prior to a windows update were happening prior to the April 2018 update
