Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4041994) — error 0x80070643

I've had ongoing problem with W10, including this one. My OS has been clean installed (reset) about 8 times in the last six months since I bought a new laptop, several times remotely by MS and a couple of times by Dell. I've tried the alleged software program fixes recommended by MS. I refuse to play with the more complicated, loooooong so-called fixes because I don't know how to do all those commands. I'm an average user, not very technical, and not an employee of Microsoft.

I've searched the net about this issue and hundreds of people have had this problem going back more than a year.

MS's lack of addressing this issue leaves many of us vulnerable to malware, viruses, and other attacks. if our OS can't be updated.  I'm surprised there hasn't been a class action lawsuit!

Forgive me if I sound mad; it's because I am. I've wasted literally hundreds of hours trying to get W10 to work correctly, including several phone calls and remote assistance from MS tech support. FIX THIS!

in windows defender settings, it says error: 2147023293 fatal error during installation.

my 1709 cumulative update was fine, which is the update to your solution above. will your solution fix my error?

Open administrative Command Prompt and type following commands one-by-one followed by Enter key.

net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

net start wuauserv

net start cryptSvc

net start bits

net start msiserver

Close Command Prompt and see if you can download the update then.

ok so question, i did not have an error downloading the cumulative update for kb4041994 which was successfully installed on 12/2/2017 BUT my error is this:

• Definition Update for Windows Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 (Definition 1.259.206.0) - Error 0x80070643

while in windows defender settings, i ran the updates there and i got this:

{big red circle with a black x}Protection Definition Update failed

Error code: -2147023293

Error description: Fatal Error During Installation

I have followed Microsoft online solutions through a total of 7 differnet options to get this update to work and the most recent was to do a clean install of windows 10, i am not aware of being any part of any insider program, i am running 64bit on windows version 1709. all seems fine and dandy. the original accumlative update failed but then was successful. no amount of backing up my files makes me want to do a clean install when i have school and i work at home and i am just curious why this particular update wont work. will your solution help me? hoping it will and thank you in advance
