Windows 10 PC goes to lock screen after 2 minutes

Screen saver set at 15 minutes, yet after 2 minutes of inactivity display goes blank requiring "enter" to get lock screen . I must always move my mouse to stay "active." Can't seem to find a solution online that works.

The setting to fix this is "System unattended sleep timeout" in advanced power settings. (Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings > change advanced power settings).

However this setting is hidden because Microsoft wants waste our time and make our lives miserable. 

To un-hide it, you need to change a registry attribute value data from 1 to 2 at the following registry path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > Power > PowerSettings > 238C9FA8-0AAD-41ED-83F4-97BE242C8F20 > 7bc4a2f9-d8fc-4469-b07b-33eb785aaca0

Full instructions:

  1. windows key + R
  2. type regedit and hit enter
  3. click Yes if asked
  4. on registry editor - ctrl+F
  5. search for 7bc4a2f9-d8fc-4469-b07b-33eb785aaca0
  6. wait, can take a while to find
  7. when found, double click attributes on the right pane
  8. change value data to 2
  9. hit ok, close registry editor.
  10. Right click the start button > power options > Additional power settings > Change Plan Settings > change advanced power settings
  11. expand Sleep
  12. expand System unattended sleep timeout
  13. change both values to zero for never or set your preferred value.

    I am having trouble with point 7, *"*when found, double click attributes on the right pane"

    I don't see an attributes file or button or option. Can anyone help....

    Upgrade2mac has the registry fix for this issue :)

    Another reason the migration from the Windows Control Panel to PC Settings has been a nightmare for home users. The PC Settings screen in Build 1809 is crammed with so much junk options and links to every stupid page Microsoft thinks will help us that it's a BIG waste of time and makes us all have little rants at our computers

    Computers come with Windows so consumers do not have a real choice of operating system right now.

    If only it was the PERSONAL Computer again and going into the registry to fix it is NOT at all personal.

    Oh for the glory days of Windows XP when that tiny little Control Panel could be setup in 15 minutes.

    Now it is Control Pages after Pages of settings that take over an hour if not days to finally get PERSONAL.

    Windows should be getting easier and easier with each build so settings are as simple as Windows Phone.

    Windows gets less PERSONAL and more OVER COMPLICATED WITH COMPLEXITY with each new build!

    For a customized home computer we have to hack Windows to go around what Microsoft has forced on us.

    THANK THE STARS for the steady pace of Linux and Microsoft making this is the last version of Windows.

    Since DOS 3.0 we have wanted Microsoft to make our lives easier and now we just want to break the chains.

    But Windows 10 is not the way, look at the simplicity and no maintenance of Chrome OS. Nice and simple.

    But we need Windows to do things. Most people Hate Google. Apple is for fun. Microsoft controls the Office.

    We tried, bought some Chromebooks, but not enough apps, or else we would have dumped Windows already.

    Either Microsoft will go back to make a PERSONAL OS or consumers will go around like we did with phones...
