Hi ..

Disk showing 100% and slowing down my system everytime . I have tried some of the fixes posted in google but nothing worked so far.

tried almost everything suggested in - https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/100-disk-usage-windows-10-fixed/

Task manager indicate some times single windows update , some times single system windows process takes almost 98% of disk .

I killed all background processes once and it seems resolved for a while but its resurfacing.

Please help me to resolve this .

Thanks

Ganesh

    Hi,

A recent change in the configuration of your device can be one of the factors why this issue occurs. After installing the Fall Creators Update you may encounter issues with 100% high disk usage. To troubleshoot your concern, we recommend that you disable some services in Windows 10 to isolate this problem. The following services areSuperfetch, HomeGroup Listener, HomeGroup Provider, andWindows Search.

The Superfetch helps to pre-load the programs you often use into the memory. But if you don't use any of the programs after turning on the PC, it will still take up a high percentage of the disk. Also, the HomeGroup services can result in the high workload of the disk and the CPU and slow down the system running.

To disable the services in Windows 10. Here’s how:

    1. Press Windows Key + R on your keyboard to open the run dialog box.
    2. Type services.msc and press Enter.
    3. Locate Superfetch.
    4. Double-click Superfetch.
    5. Select Automatic (Delay Start) from the drop-down menu of Startup type.

    6. Double-click the HomeGroup Listener, the HomeGroup Provider and the Windows Search. 7. Select Disable d form the drop-down menu of Startup type.

Let us know if the solution above works for you.

Thanks for the reply. It did not resolve. As suggested, tried the following ,

    1. Tried to select auto start for super fetch but received error msg

"The delayed auto start flag could not be set

Error 87 :The Parameter is incorrect." .

Tried stopping service , restarting machine but i couldn't select it so i finally disabled it.

    1. Disabled HomeGroup Listener, the HomeGroup Provider and the Windows Search, as suggested.

Restarted machine and verified all those four services are in disabled status.

but disk is still showing  100% .

Screen shot is below, when captured  screen shot avast occupied full disk, but some times some other thing...

single service is occupying full disk.

    Pls help.

To isolate your concern, we recommend that you check this article on how to perform a clean boot in Windows 10. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update. You may also determine what conflict is causing the issue by performing this method.

Note: Please go through the section: How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.

Give us an update with the outcome.

    Hi ..Thanks for the reply.

I have  done clear reboot , restarted several times but no luck, it is still growing to 100% sporadically .

I uninstalled Avast Anti virus too.  One observation forgot to tell ,  disk shows 100% as soon as system is on/restarted and later  on it reaches sporadically. when composing this msg it is 1 or 2 %.

Since it did not fix , i did not do the step you mentioned as Note.

Note: Please go through the section: How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.

--------------------------------------------System is still left as all suggested things disabled.

Windows 10 has a feature that allows end-users to reset the operating system in the event that they want to start over 100% back to factory defaults or, just reinstall the operating system yet keep all your files. The feature is called Reset this PC and it’s extremely handy if you’re experiencing stability or performance issue. Resetting your device won’t uninstall your current build. This is because of resetting, as a function, aims to reinstall the default state of your PC’s current version.

To assist you with your concern, we recommend that you try to reset your PC using the Windows environment option or the WINRE (Windows Recovery Environment) mode. To do this, follow the steps below:

    1. In the Search box, type Settings and press Enter.
    2. Click on Update & Security.
    3. In the left pane, select Recovery.
    4. Now in the right pane, under Reset this PC, click on Get Started.
    5. Follow the on-screen instructions carefully.

If the “Reset” function doesn’t work in the operating system. You can try the WINRE (Windows Recovery Environment) mode. To do this, follow the steps below:

    1. Click “Recovery” then select “Advanced startup”.
    2. Click “Restart now”, the operating system will reboot into WINRE (Windows Recovery Environment) mode.
