Windows 10 100 Percent Disk Usage Problem

100% Disk Usage - 2nd time in one year on new computer with Windows 10, 1Tb hard drive, 258GB used, 16mb RAM, Dell Inspiron, 7th Gen Intel Core i7. 

I had this problem again this week after the latest Windows update. I tried all the solutions...again...Shut down search, Superfetch, Virtual memory trick, etc. All to no avail. 

Update was on 03-12-2019, problem of 100% Disk activity with it pegged at 100% since, not dropping even a percent. I tried the above solutions then I tried the more drastic solutions below. 

I tried to go back to a Restore Point...did not work. Reset PC would not work and advanced start up would not work. I had to re-install Windows...again...with a clean re-install. I did this by going through Settings -> Windows Update -> Recovery -> More Recovery Options -> Fresh Start -> Get Started. This took most of the day on 03-15-2019. 

Very Frustrating that Microsoft can't get a handle on this problem. 

Now, the Disk is running normal, fluctuating with consistent demands placed upon it. Machine is fast and responsive after re-installing all my programs...again.

Hello, I had this same problem and there's no point in trying to guess, if you want to find out what service or program is using the disk, then follow these steps:

-Download Process Explorer, run as admin

-When you open Process Explorer, go into View, Select Columns, Process I/O and checkmark the Read and Write boxes

-The disk read/write columns will show you all the programs that read and write from/to your disk, sort the column by the highest read/write operations, the culprit program will show a high number of read/write operations that is causing the disk to be at 100%, locate the program, suspend it, if your disk usage goes down that means the problem is that program, if not then keep testing other programs with high read/writes operations until you find the culprit

Was working fine for 1 - 2 days then suddenly after my PC had been on for about 3 hours it just spikes back to 100% and i need to then go into MSC and start the above services and then disable them again to fix the problem.

Please note i have had this PC for 1 year.  Only in august did this start becoming a problem. Windows 10 is utter garbage and i wish they didn't force people to pay £150 to get Windows 7 installed when you buy a new PC. This is as bad as apple forcing their crappy software/hardware on ALL users and making things incompatable with 3rd party items is the stupidest thing that any company could ever do.

I too have this issue. It started when I had an issue with Outlook from Office 365. I eventually contacted a service rep who uninstalled Office 365 then re-installed it. This fixed the issue I had with Outlook but then I started getting the 100% disk problem. I had never seen it before so I have to presume it came from the Office 365. I am considering un-installing Office 365 and getting a different program - or upgrading to an Apple product. Really tired of Microsoft. Any body else had a similar experience?

I have  done clear reboot , restarted several times but no luck, it is still growing to 100% sporadically . 

I uninstalled Avast Anti virus too.  One observation forgot to tell ,  disk shows 100% as soon as system is on/restarted and later  on it reaches sporadically. when composing this msg it is 1 or 2 %. 

Since it did not fix , i did not do the step you mentioned as Note. 

Note: Please go through the section: How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.
