I was coding quite a bit the other day, and go loads done. I ended up copying it, and planned on pasting it, but completely forgot. Now I've got other things copied. I'd like to know if there's a way to view my old clipboard history? Are there any apps that can see everything I've already copied BEFORE downloading it? Or is there a way to do it with Windows? Please help!

As Allan Mej mentioned Clipboard content is overwritten.
However, last year I think, MS released a new feature in Win 10 where multiple items can be saved in Clipboard history but one needs to turn it on first.
Go to Settings -> System -> (Scroll down to) Clipboard -> then turn "Clipboard history" on.
To view "Clipboard history" contents, press the Windows key + V.

Upon copying something, the previous clipboard content is always overwritten. This means that there is always no history saved on the clipboard. You can use third-party applications which record your clipboard history, but you cannot recover your clipboard history prior to the installation of that app.

I was disappointed just like you and found this thread. I modified a document online for over an hour, copied it just in case, clicked Save, and then copied the document again only to find out that it didn't actually save. I had therefore overwritten what I copied before saving it, and was quite infuriated that I had to start over because my changes were not saved. Anyway, I was trying to find a clipboard within Microsoft that will save multiple copies, but there isn't one and I don't want to download an app. But actually, I already have downloaded one! I had Microsoft Word open in the background and opened the clipboard within it. Then when I copied my document online, a little notification popped up near the taskbar that said "5 of 24 - Clipboard. Item Copied." So I went to Word and of course, there they were: my five previous copies. So there you go; you can have the clipboard opened in Word and in the background and it will save up to 24 copies for retrieval!

Then why does some online info say up to 24 items are retained in Clipboard history -- and even the Clipboard in Word displays this. Seems like sometimes I can see multiple images (history) and sometimes only 1. What are the rules?
If your getting this online - Check Active X Components - If your constants, logged in to MSN, or you use both on and Offline Office. This is a possible reason. The Component maybe in your IE addons - Named Research: Or OCOW~11 for older Office editions or possibly something else. Newer could be like: Office document cache handler.
You can also check other browser extensions and read the data to see if it records such history. Manage Addons, Click the file you wish to check in the list, then more Information in the bottom section. With the option to disable the addon.
If you can not see where the addons located and wish too
Go to addons, Right Click the any of the Name tabs for the Columns and tick all the boxes so you can find if, its something you did, something that came preconfigured or has just been left without knowledge till now.
Also on your Desktop version of Word Check the Edit Section of clipboard Untick anything that suggests Auto Collection. Its highly possible that it could be something totally different but these areas are where you would look to start to Isolate, if at the least point you in the right direction to the culprit on your system.
As regards "What Are the Rules" Honestly the answer could be as broad as you asking those 4 words. Consider : OS, Version And Build, Office Version & Build, Browser plugins and additions., 3rd Party applications that utilise the clipboard. System configuration, Settings and so on.
