Recently, I have seen many people inquiring about this error regarding the Media Creation Tool. I myself got this error when I try to create a bootable USB drive (aka Create an Installable Media).
Here's what I tried:
Reformatting USB drive to FAT32
Deleting files
Tried to locate and run Setupprep.exe (I couldn't find this file in C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources or anywhere)
Change Startup Type of Update-Related Services (Startup Type: Manual -> Automatic)
Uninstalled and Reinstall Windows 10 Media Creation Tool
Made sure my USB is above 8Gb as instructed by the tool (it is 15Gb)
The Fix (for me at least):
1. Downloadthe Windows 10 Media Creation Tool directlyinto the USB drive that you want to use as a bootable device (meaning you download the Tool into the same USB you chose to use as an Installation Media). If you already downloaded the tool on your PC's Desktop, copy it into your USB.
2. Run the Tool directly from your USB, meaning you open File Explorer, locate the MediaCreationTool.exe in your USB and double-click to run it.
The installer should then create an Installation Media/Bootable USB.

Yes, of course. Could not find usb, so i dwnld to pc, then copied to usb, seems it worked, my usb says windows on it, with the files. i think my hdd in the c-55 is bads, check cables, cannot boot. everything is in order from bios order etc., . idk, but ty.
Not following what you are saying here.
The Windows Media Creation Tool creates a bootable flash drive with Windows 10 installation files on it. After the tool makes the bootable flash drive, plug the flash drive into a USB port, reboot and tell the computer to boot from the flash drive. This will begin the Windows 10 installation and will put a fresh installation of Windows 10 on your hard drive.
Update, i see i can undo copy, so i am on that.. then copy only windows, right? Hanggg
Seems to be working, only. i put the creation tool on, then the win 10 file. i hope i can use on another pc, my toshi needs a boot. Live and learn. if it won't work, maybe i can reformat the usb. darn. Any options? Let me know please. I am lost, never done this and have less than 100 hours on computer, But, i already work in the cmd,. i moved osk to lock screen in x drive, from advanced options in recovery/ trblshoot, so i should be able to whoop this up..hahaha.. Hangggg.
just formatted the USB with NTFS and it worked.
