Is it possible to uninstall the Windows 10 update assistant? When i delete it it just automaticly reinstalls itself when i start the pc again

For interest. I have had to delete and re-delete this thing eight times today alone!

What are they thinking of?

ZigzagBark12830 - I absolutely agree. This is ridiculous. This damn thing interferes with, freezes or closes whatever it is I'm trying to do, and as a full time student with mostly online classes, I'm going to be livid the day I'm kicked out of an online exam because of this stupid updater.

This thing appears, no different than an online pop-up ad, literally all day, every. single. day. I've uninstalled the thing over and over and over and over and over and it continues to pop up the next time I use my computer (not the next time I start the computer either; just the next time I sit down to it) it pops up again, over and over and over and over and over and over. I do not care either way if I have the update. I don't want the update, I couldn't care any less. But I'd do anything to make its pop-up ads disappear.

So I tried to let it install the update. But of course there's some kind of issue. It says I do not have enough space on my computer to install the update. Now, I have a little netbook. I don't, or rarely do, save anything to it. It all goes on a thumb drive, or One Drive. The only thing I have on my computer at all is Firefox because Edge and Chrome are awful. Even after going through the whole computer and making space, it still said it didn't have enough space to update. So, since I don't have anything saved on my computer anyway, I went ahead and did a factory reset. I thought this would ensure I'd be able to just get the probably-pointless update to go through and get rid of the merciless pop-ups. Nope.

My computer was empty. Post-factory-reset-empty. No Firefox. No programs. Not so much as one single photo. Nothing. And would it update? "Not enough space." All for an update I really don't care whether I have or not. All just to try and get rid of Windows' pop-up ads that have infected my computer like a freaking virus for at least the past six months. Pop-ups from an "update assistant" that won't allow me to use the updates, then continues to tell me to update, then won't allow me to update, then tells me to update, and on and on and on. 

I've tried to just live with it. This has been going on for a long time. Like I said, at least six months. How is the "update" not outdated by now? But I really can't deal with it anymore and I have to say something. It's driving me nuts. And I shouldn't have to deal with it!!!!

Windows - you need to give people a solution to this. It is a maddening problem that makes absolutely no sense and you are obviously refusing to fix it. We are your customers, do your job. Because this is seriously such an awful and obnoxious thing to make your customers deal with. I'm obviously not alone here either. please offer us an answer.

Did you even read to my post? Because my technique worked.  Update Assistant is gone for me, completely, and hasn't come back since I made that post.

Okay... I spent about 7 hours chatting with  Microsoft Techs online trying to figure out why my 1709 wouldn't install correctly. It kept trying over and over and over and made my laptop very slow. The last tech finally figured out that my laptop was not compatible with the update. He told me that Dell would be correcting that within two to three weeks. He then remotely did a bunch of things to my laptop to stop the updates from starting until I was ready to update after Dell was finished with whatever they were going to do. So I learn today, from an answer to my post about this on another users question, that Dell has no plans to update drivers for my model. Yet, even after the tech supposedly turned everything off, the windows update assistant was still trying and failing to install the impossible update about every two hours! I finally found this question string. I followed all the suggested steps. It has been about 5 hours. I think DaveM121 may have solved my problem. Her is not my cyber hero.

HOWEVER... As stated by HavardBjorgo, why should someone for whom an update is not possible have to be abused by constant attempts to install it. Why can't the program be written to terminate all future attempts once it learns that a computer is not compatible?
