Is it possible to uninstall the Windows 10 update assistant? When i delete it it just automaticly reinstalls itself when i start the pc again

This is ludicrous!!   I do not wish my application of Windows to be 'updated' at the moment.  Why, therefore, can I not delete the relevant program?  Sorry to be vulgar, but who the hell owns my computer: me or Microsoft?  I do not expect Renault to tell me how to manage my car or Bosch my dishwasher so why should the maker of the operating systrem on my computer presume to tell me what I may or may not do with it?  Or, worse, foist its products on me when I have not asked for the them or in ways that make them 'unrefusable'?  This is all some kind of technological dictatorship in which the user has no role and no say.

I had this exact problem for the longest time. I was able to fix it with the task scheduler solution, but since that's not working for you, here's a janky fix that will totally prevent it from running, it's what I've been using the last several months.

1. Right click on your desktop, select new -> text document. Open the text document.

2.  The following script continuously executes commands that will terminate Windows Update Assistant whenever it attempts to start. Copy and paste the following script into the text document:

@echo off

:Loop

taskkill /im Windows10UpgraderApp.exe /f

taskkill /im SetupHost.exe /f

goto Loop

3. Go to File -> save as...
4. Change the file name to Windows Update Killer.bat (The file name doesn't matter as long as the extension is .bat) -> select "Save as type:" -> select "all files"
5. Save the file.

After doing this, an executable file will appear on your desktop. Run the file as an administrator. A command prompt window will appear. Closing the window will terminate the script, so just keep it running and you'll never see Windows Update Assistant ever again.

ZigzagBark12830 - I absolutely agree. This is ridiculous. This damn thing interferes with, freezes or closes whatever it is I'm trying to do, and as a full time student with mostly online classes, I'm going to be livid the day I'm kicked out of an online exam because of this stupid updater.

This thing appears, no different than an online pop-up ad, literally all day, every. single. day. I've uninstalled the thing over and over and over and over and over and it continues to pop up the next time I use my computer (not the next time I start the computer either; just the next time I sit down to it) it pops up again, over and over and over and over and over and over. I do not care either way if I have the update. I don't want the update, I couldn't care any less. But I'd do anything to make its pop-up ads disappear.

So I tried to let it install the update. But of course there's some kind of issue. It says I do not have enough space on my computer to install the update. Now, I have a little netbook. I don't, or rarely do, save anything to it. It all goes on a thumb drive, or One Drive. The only thing I have on my computer at all is Firefox because Edge and Chrome are awful. Even after going through the whole computer and making space, it still said it didn't have enough space to update. So, since I don't have anything saved on my computer anyway, I went ahead and did a factory reset. I thought this would ensure I'd be able to just get the probably-pointless update to go through and get rid of the merciless pop-ups. Nope.

My computer was empty. Post-factory-reset-empty. No Firefox. No programs. Not so much as one single photo. Nothing. And would it update? "Not enough space." All for an update I really don't care whether I have or not. All just to try and get rid of Windows' pop-up ads that have infected my computer like a freaking virus for at least the past six months. Pop-ups from an "update assistant" that won't allow me to use the updates, then continues to tell me to update, then won't allow me to update, then tells me to update, and on and on and on. 

I've tried to just live with it. This has been going on for a long time. Like I said, at least six months. How is the "update" not outdated by now? But I really can't deal with it anymore and I have to say something. It's driving me nuts. And I shouldn't have to deal with it!!!!

Windows - you need to give people a solution to this. It is a maddening problem that makes absolutely no sense and you are obviously refusing to fix it. We are your customers, do your job. Because this is seriously such an awful and obnoxious thing to make your customers deal with. I'm obviously not alone here either. please offer us an answer.

Don't know about others but I cannot find the Windows 10 updater among the 'tasks' list.  For me, Windows 10 attempts to update AT LEAST  once a day and ALWAYS fails.  This is driving me to distraction and I want to remove it entirely but can find no way to do this.  David
