Opening Task Manager Slows PC to Crawl - Windows 10 Pro 1709

So I got the following response from Webroot:

"The issue you are reporting is most likely a known issue related to the Identity Shield protection layer. The Webroot Development team has been notified of this issue and is currently working on a resolution.  We expect to address this issue in an upcoming software version release, which will be downloaded automatically to your computer and installed when it is available

In the meantime may you please try allowing Task Manager (taskmgr.exe) and Chrome and/or Firefox (chrome.exe and/or firefox.exe) on Identity Shield by sending an 'Identity Shield Allow application' agent command following the instructions below

[...]

Finally, please reboot the machine for it to take effect."

Previously I had allowed both Firefox and Task Manager in Webroot, but it didn't work. They essentially suggested the steps I had already taken, with the caveat that I should reboot my machine for them to take effect. In my case, at least, a reboot following these changes has worked and I can now access my Task Manager as normal with no lag, even with Firefox open and full Webroot protection enabled (with the new exceptions of course)

I'll monitor over time and report back any changes

I have this same problem, having lived with it for months I'm finally trying to get it sorted.

My PC is a custom build, about a year old. i7, 16GM RAM, SSD, etc. ASUS motherboard. Using Webroot AV, Windows 10 Pro build 1709, Firefox Quantum.

So far I have tried 'allowing' both Firefox and Task Manager in Webroot, both Identity Protection and Block/Allow Files

None of the above steps have made a difference, and each time I have to kill Task Manager via externally accessing my cmd line in order to regain control of my PC. Previously I had to cold reset each time this happened which I hate having to do.

From this thread it seems different things are working for different people but there's no guaranteed fix or workaround (other than ditching Task Manager or Webroot for alternatives).

I'll raise a ticket directly with Webroot support, I work for an MSP and we have a decent amount of endpoints so hopefully they take this seriously and come up with a fix.

I hope you can find some sort of resolution. I had opened a ticket with Webroot regarding this and was basically told they have had some other reports of this and was advised to disable the Identity Protection or put it into safe mode. Which doesn't seem to be working for me now.

I'm using a Lenovo so nope. It's more of a Webroot + Windows 10 issue.

Though for some setting 'allow' seems to work, it does not for me. I have allow always on for Firefox and other browsers. Webroot seems to be one common denominator. It strikes me that many report having a Dell and an SSD (and Windows 10 xx edition?). I have all too. Would be interesting to see whether those other things are common too. In that case I'll turn to Dell and Webroot support.

Dell - check

SSD - check

Windows 10 - check.

SSD is a replacement for the orginal SATA. Webroot was initially OK with Win 10 on the SSD. The problem with Task Manager began with the Autumn Creators update.
