Windows 10 updates keep turning off system restore thus deleting previous restore points!

Wait, did I read this right? We can't save system restore points any longer? I don't care if an old one drops off. Had a power failure, system moved all the front window icons into a pile on the left. I went and looked, "system restore set off".

Turned on, set a restore  point.

Two days later, all the icons are piled on the left again. Look... no system restore points, it's turned off again. Repeated: turned on again, set manual restore point. This morning, no system restore points.

Someone just tell me, in plain English, has Microsoft removed the ability for any system restore points? How do I save the configuration which gets lost when there's a system lock up or power failure? HOW?

If the ability to do this function is disabled, why is that option still available in system settings?

Totally agree - I can't tell you how many times I have desperately needed to restore a system, only to find that there are no restore points and system restore is turned OFF after I KNOW I turned it on! Truly - WHAT is the point of having this function if it gets sneakily turned off when you aren't looking? SURELY the DEFAULT for this feature should be turned ON??? And if a system upgrade has to delete old restore points, then it should, after completion, BY DEFAULT turn the function ON and create the first restore point AUTOMATICALLY!!!  Sorry for all the capitals - if it looks like I'm shouting, hell yes - I AM!  Can you imagine your insurance broker saying, after a death in the family, "Oh yes, we had to upgrade your policy so we deleted the life insurance"??

Absolutely! It makes no damn sense at all for users. It obviously to do with ensuring people are forced into these continuous Huge OS Upgrades. (Not the monthy updates, But 1511 to 1607 to 1703 etc.

What Ive noticed, my restore points (And System Image Restore Points) are wiped and restore is turned off after these major (several GB) Upgrades. Otherwise the restore points stay (For a month or so anyway)

Because the System Image restore points go also, I suspect that any System Images youve stored on an Ext HDD will NOT work if the SI restore points have been wiped. And if your now on upgrade 1709, and your system Image is for ie; 1607, Im fairly sure it will fail, and risk wiping your hard drive. That happened to me when I tried to restore a W8 image on my PC that was then on W8.1. I got the error, Incorrect OS or Architecture (Or something like that) Then ended up with a totally wiped hard drive. After 3 days, managed to restore an 8.1 image to it using a D/L'd iso of Server r2012, which had recovery options for 8.1. W8.1 never permitted repair discs to be created! WTHell has gotten into this MS corporation? They wont me making any new fans. That's for real!

When a "feature" upgrade is performed such as the Anniversary Update (v1607), original Creators Update (v1703), or Fall Creators Update (v1709), the update will clear at least (1) Restore Points, (2) Event Log entries, (3) Windows Update History, and (4) Reliability History. Basically you are installing a new operating system, and using restore points from previous versions would mess things up. You do have the option of rolling back to the previous version for a period of time if you have issues with the new version.

Aaahhh... My point exactly!

But Why? Its just wrong wrong wrong. And with MSoft as it behaves now, we have NO settings options to do a damn thing about it!

But for working hard to constantly block these damn upgrades. When I see one coming, or see my banwidth going crazy, I go straight to performance moniter and KILL the W10upgrade processs, then delete any remnants of what it had downloaded!

As far as W10 goes, I was fairly OK with 1511. Im still running 1511 on one PC. But its hard work stopping these forced (So-called) upgrades!

So what is MSofts response to me doing this?.... STOP ALL PATCHES & SUPPORT! If you don't upgrade. For 1511, and now 1607. Damn cyber mafia!

Thank you! I was surprised to get a concise answer so soon. Since I'm blind, using a screen reader, I probably missed any notification of such annoying processes. Even my Windows Media Player got reset to Groove Music, which I seems less accessible. Way to go Microsoft, clearing up the changes took me at least an hour.

With the quick concise answer, sure. But with the actual thing they are doing, Im SO SO Not OK with that! (Changing to Groove, for a start... Yuk!)

How on earth does MS stay in business?? The only solution to rescuing a PC from yet another disatrous update crash was to use a rescue disk for system restore. Now you cant even do that. SO.....is the only option to join a class action lawsuit???

I have spent over 20 hours on this ridiculous Windows 10 machine. HOW DO THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
