Windows 10 updates keep turning off system restore thus deleting previous restore points!

I agree...I only ck it when I need it..and it's always turned off!!!!

You have my sympathy - If I had a dollar for every hour of my life that buggy Microsoft software has wasted, I'd be a rich man! What really disturbs me is the total lack of interest or accountability from our wonderful Redmond friends. Too often have I spent hours or even days searching countless Internet forums for the solution to a specific Windows problem, only to have to eventually format the drive and start over. My solution to this (and it has saved my life, figuratively, many times) is to install a scheduled disk cloning package like Acronis or Macrium Reflect that clones my entire Windows drive to ANOTHER, preferably external, drive on a daily or weekly basis. External hard drives are relatively cheap these days. Set up your computer so that you have a separate Windows drive that holds no data, only the OS and installed apps. It won't be too big - mine is about 150Gb. Imaged it occupies about 50Gb. Make sure you have created a bootable recovery disk with your imaging software (either DVD or USB) so that restoring your entire Windows drive is not too much of a hassle.

Windows does have the built-in option to create a system image to another drive, believe it or not, which you could try if you want to rely on Microsoft software. I don't. Too often it fails with some incomprehensible error message and then you can just forget it.

If you do go this route it makes further sense to also have a separate drive just for data, and back this up regularly too. 

It's worth the peace of mind. Windows updates, even disk failures or theft of your entire PC, is no longer a concern. You can restore your entire system, with all installed apps and settings, in usually less than an hour.

Several hours ago i attempted to "restart and update" my PC after another Trojan styled windows update, apart from the verbose status messages which lets me know a little of what's happening during shutdown, being disabled the OS update failed and was stalled on a blue restarting screen for hours... With my PC being essential to both work and livelihood I can't just leave it for 24 hours hoping for the best that at some point it will actually do what its supposed to and restart so a forced reset was in order... Now take a guess what my real issue is now.?.  Yes ,, I have no restore points and an OS that will not boot to the login screen (safe mode just as useless).

WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS??? And im telling you now I'm not doing another god damn reinstall to then spend the next 6 days straight reinstalling all my software and another 24 hours reconfiguring settings and rebuilding media libraries ect. ect. just to have it all wiped again by another windows update the day after I finish.

This year alone I have been forced to clean reinstall windows 10 five times because of system updates.. 

WHY????????

Microsoft please just swallow your pride admit that win10 was developed and is updated by a bunch of high schoolers and actually hire the most expensive and reputable software developement team to build a new windows OS from scratch.

Everyday day I'm one step closer to dedicating myself to Linux. For OS distributions that are free and once needed a pilots license they certainly seem to have made amazing progression developing user and noob friendly systems,, but what's best is all the support forums,, should you have a problem there are plenty of people to CORRECTLY provide an answer

Just went thru an update on 11/28/18 and it wiped all my restore points out.  Can't even restore to a previous date.

Messed up my Excel software too!!

Quit messing **** up!!!  Tired of losing so much ****.  at least my files are backed up to carbonite so I don't lose them!!!

Indeed, Windows 7 was so stable.   I think that it appears that Microsoft might go the way of Apple, with issues and complaints.   I never had update issues with Windows 7  - - not one time!

It is seemingly related to the number of new useless apps that Windows 10 creators update added to my system, which are apps I would never use, such as Gaming, Weather, etc.   Thus, it sppears that W10 is overloaded.   Simple functionality is what we all should be pushing on Microsoft to implement.

These problems are similar to those I encountered with Windows "Smart phones" which were the worst implementation ever.  I switched to Android and it seems that maybe Chrome will be our obvious choice.

God Forbid we get pushed into the GOOGLE environment...they control enough!
