What I did was to uninstall it, reinstall it, uninstall it again and then do a disk cleanup and then manually remove the last remains of the programme directories. It hasn't reappeared since.

Yesterday, I got the notification "Your device needs the latest security updates" and an update window that couldn't be closed, but could be minimized to the tray. It spent hours to reach 100%, so I left it running overnight. I get up this morning, it reappears, does the same thing again...but then "restoring your version of Windows" appears on the restart and now it's downloading again. Is anyone else struggling with this, because it seems seriously bugged and stuck in a viscous cycle.

2018-01-22T23:10:01+00:00 This is also causing trouble for us. Our users are on 1607 and we have them configured for Current Branch for Business/Semi-Annual Channel with a 6 month delay.
This prompt has been causing 1709 to install to our clients, when it has only been in the SAC since December 2017. Our settings should have 1703 being installed.

Seems to be pointing in the direction of a microsoft update management issue although, since they seem to be missing in action, this can't be confirmed or addressed from a solution perspective. I am definitely not savvy enough to sort it out so I guess that, on the assumption that they know they have an issue even it they don't want to address it here, we figure out our work-around and wait and see if they do address it in some future patch or update. Hmmm. I am glad they don't maintain airplanes..........come to think of it I guess with all the on-board programing they actually do.

2018-01-23T03:57:07+00:00 I get all the same process for updates, '"Your device needs the latest security updates" ' and waited for the entire time only to received the error 'Windows 10 update failed'. Also, receiving error code 0x80004005 and followed both directions of troubleshooting this error only to end up with the same problem.
Microsoft Windows techs please help!

2018-01-23T08:15:36+00:00 I also have this problem. My computer is stuck in a continual loop of downloading updates. A window appears with the Windows 10 message, "Your device needs the latest security updates." Windows downloads the updates, and then turns off.
Also, when the computer re-boots, it opens to a "Choose Your Keyboard Layout." After that, a menu appears which reads: "Choose and Option." The options are: (1) Continue: Exit and continue to Windows 10 (on Volume 6); (2) Troubleshoot: Reset your PC or see advanced options; (3) Use a Device: Use a USB drive, network connection or Windows recovery DVD; (4) Turn off your PC; (5) Use Another Operating System: Continue with another installed version of Windows.
When I select option 1 "Continue" it just takes me back to Windows. And then the whole process starts again within a couple hours, the computer starts downloading the latest security updates in order to install the most recent version of Windows
