What I did was to uninstall it, reinstall it, uninstall it again and then do a disk cleanup and then manually remove the last remains of the programme directories. It hasn't reappeared since.
Your device needs the latest security updates...big time error.

Yesterday, I got the notification "Your device needs the latest security updates" and an update window that couldn't be closed, but could be minimized to the tray. It spent hours to reach 100%, so I left it running overnight. I get up this morning, it reappears, does the same thing again...but then "restoring your version of Windows" appears on the restart and now it's downloading again. Is anyone else struggling with this, because it seems seriously bugged and stuck in a viscous cycle.

2018-01-08T18:20:50+00:00 I get this message daily. It shows up on a machine that I use to drive a "kiosk" type display and it totally screws up the display.
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!
Microsoft, please fix this. It is a bug, not a feature. Your users MUST have control of when or even if we process updates. As it is, Windows is basically useless to us and we might as well switch over to Linux. And that looks better and better every day.

2018-01-08T18:22:01+00:00 I've disabled the entire Windows Upgrade process. I'm still taking regular updates, but I had to break the loop, because there was absolutely no trick that I could use to get it through.

2018-01-10T08:37:55+00:00 How have you managed the update assistant? I'm forced to manually uninstall every time I boot my computer, because it keeps reinstalling and using huge amounts of data. I've found no way of permanently removing it to break the loop.
