What I did was to uninstall it, reinstall it, uninstall it again and then do a disk cleanup and then manually remove the last remains of the programme directories. It hasn't reappeared since.
Your device needs the latest security updates...big time error.

Yesterday, I got the notification "Your device needs the latest security updates" and an update window that couldn't be closed, but could be minimized to the tray. It spent hours to reach 100%, so I left it running overnight. I get up this morning, it reappears, does the same thing again...but then "restoring your version of Windows" appears on the restart and now it's downloading again. Is anyone else struggling with this, because it seems seriously bugged and stuck in a viscous cycle.

I have 80 gb free of 287 gb, shouldn't this be enough?
I have already tried updating all drivers and removing peripherals so I guess I can try freeing some space.
Where is Microsoft response on this?????

The files or data on your computer will be kept during an OS or a security update. In case a compatibility problem will arise, the update will not install and you will get a notification as to what went wrong why the update failed.
You may also create a restore point or a backup to protect your files so you can go back to an earlier point before the update was installed in case something happens. Please see these links for more information:

2018-03-10T23:28:58+00:00 I purchased one new Dell notebook a couple of months ago and the Windows 10 update nuisance striked again! It is impressive that MS keeps on launching new versions of Windows 10 containing bugs... Why not relaunching Windows XP instead of insisting on Windows 10? As a matter of fact, I suggest that the person in charge of Windows 10 must be more qualififed. It is clear to me he or she lacks the minimum qualifications for carrying out his or her job.
