Your device needs the latest security updates...big time error.

Ok All.  Good news.  I just got the box back from the tech - that is that really nice but antisocial dude with the coke bottle glasses who lives in the trees down the street with no cell phone and no service for one anyway) all updated.  Apparently he has been doing a roaring business sorting this garbage out.  The problem he says is that MS hasn't been to good at writing the code for the updates around all the many peripherals out there.  My problem was an un-update-able driver for an unused ASUS wireless card that came with my ASUS M11BB desktop computer.  Apparently there is a record somewhere in the computer of multiple unsuccessful attempts to update the thing.  He had hit that one before and was unsuccessful sorting it out so he just ripped the thing out and deleted all mention of it in the software and did the same to mine before he even started.  He then cleaned up some registry issues that I probably caused trying to self diagnose the issues which were way above my pay grade.   Having done so he manually downloaded and installed with out incident the 1703 update from the summer some time , that apparently couldn't get in there as a result of the driver issue and then the 1709, which is apparently the November update, went in without issue.  Charged me just under 50 bucks CDN. 

      So his advice to you great folks is, in your searched for help, to watch the make and model of the computer that is running this operating system and see what came with it both in the software as well as hardware because there is a lot of feet on the ground out there and lots of them have left their shoe laces dangling.  Mine would be to make friends with some antisocial type with really thick glaces.

Jayakay: it is not the job of ordinary users to fix problems created by MS. When I began using Windows 10 such annoying pop-up never showed up. I just want to have my original Windows 10 back and it is not mandatory for me to adopt version 1709 at all... MS has used the same argument air liners use to postpone and cancel airflights - everything has been done for safety reasons. As a matter of fact, MS has launched such version for its own safety.

This is my very complaint, I did not elect to have any updates to my Windows 10.0.10585. My Sony Vaio and I are are unnerved, aggravated, and thoroughly frustrated! I have Windows 10 Pro, version I have used Windows since 1995. I have used mostly all of its different versions. This is the most annoying and frustrating problem. I have worked as both a software and database developer. All of my work makes extensive use of Microsoft Visual Studio, as well as SQL Server. This is entirely unacceptable. After rightfully acquiring ownership of an operating system, such users do have the right to deny or allow Microsoft to make changes to their machines via updates. 

I am ever so displeased.

I DON'T WANT THE SECURITY UPDATES!!! I want to know how to permanently disable this "feature." I disable Windows Update and its related services;  then, I reboot. I check computer management's service list upon reboot; it indicates that the features are disabled. Then, some minutes later, the same ominous nag screen appears. "Windows 10 _ Your device needs the latest security updates."

After several attempts at having permitting the update installation process to run, which has failed each time, I don't want to waste any more of my precious time. I have spent an inordinate amount of time repeatedly closing the persistent dialog box; disabling Windows Update and its related services; rebooting my machine; researching the issue in order to permanently disabled this nag screen. But, it has been to no avail. Whether I am doing seriously complex and detailed work or simply viewing streaming content, I simply no longer have the peace of mind, which I have enjoyed for the past twenty-five years.

This scenario was most definitely foreseen by by the team of MS OS developers; however, for some dubious reason, they chose to throw a substantial number of consumers under the bus, by unconscionably setting into motion the subsequent releases which led to this very problem.

Shame on you Microsoft!

Windows 10 update is more serious than it appears to be. Actually, MS engineers are not capable to solve the updating problem they created themselves. For many years I have not updated Windows XP and MS never posed any threat to me using invasive pop-ups.
