What I did was to uninstall it, reinstall it, uninstall it again and then do a disk cleanup and then manually remove the last remains of the programme directories. It hasn't reappeared since.
Your device needs the latest security updates...big time error.

Yesterday, I got the notification "Your device needs the latest security updates" and an update window that couldn't be closed, but could be minimized to the tray. It spent hours to reach 100%, so I left it running overnight. I get up this morning, it reappears, does the same thing again...but then "restoring your version of Windows" appears on the restart and now it's downloading again. Is anyone else struggling with this, because it seems seriously bugged and stuck in a viscous cycle.

2018-01-26T08:31:23+00:00 Annddd it looks like my fix has failed, because the popup is back this morning. I've had about two-months of it being gone, but it's grown back like Cancer. It's going to be downloading for hours, trying to update for hours more and then will be on the loop again, until I disable it...again.

2018-01-26T08:46:17+00:00 Me too. When I woke up this morning it tried to download updates again. I hit ctl + alt + delete and ended the task in task manager. I've tried everything. Nothing works.
Do you think re-installing Windows 10 would work?

2018-01-26T08:51:58+00:00 It might...but there are no guarantees and then I don't want to have to reinstall my programmes and settings. It took me months to get things the way I like them. If you're not fussy about that, then go for it. I'd recommend a reinstall or a refresh and see if the upgrade will go through then, before you put anything back on.

2018-01-26T08:57:33+00:00 Yeah, those are my thoughts also. I have everything set up the way I like it and it takes a long time to get this stuff set up just right. A reinstall is a huge pain. Yeah, before I start setting it up, I'd make sure the upgrade was successful.
I'm not surprised that Microsoft is not addressing this issues. Just like Google ignores problems also. But it is very frustrating.
