What I did was to uninstall it, reinstall it, uninstall it again and then do a disk cleanup and then manually remove the last remains of the programme directories. It hasn't reappeared since.
Your device needs the latest security updates...big time error.

Yesterday, I got the notification "Your device needs the latest security updates" and an update window that couldn't be closed, but could be minimized to the tray. It spent hours to reach 100%, so I left it running overnight. I get up this morning, it reappears, does the same thing again...but then "restoring your version of Windows" appears on the restart and now it's downloading again. Is anyone else struggling with this, because it seems seriously bugged and stuck in a viscous cycle.

I have 80 gb free of 287 gb, shouldn't this be enough?
I have already tried updating all drivers and removing peripherals so I guess I can try freeing some space.
Where is Microsoft response on this?????

I've encountered several computers running 1511 or 1607 that have been unable to install a feature upgrade via Windows Update and this provides an alternate method. I'm glad Microsoft is doing this rather than let those systems with Windows Update problems stay on an unsupported release that is not getting security updates.

As a matter of information, I just updated Windows 10. Though MS informed that it would take up 90 minutes for complete updating, it took four long hours. MS should know that frequent updates are too annoying... Frankly speaking, both 7 and 8.1 are by far and away better than Windows 10. It is a shame that MS launched a bad product like Windows 10. Incidentally, Windows XP was the best operational system ever. Taken into consideration what I have seen lately, I bet Windows 11 will be certainly even worser than Windows 10 - just wait and see.
Finally, I am curious to know who is the main developer of Windows 10...

2018-02-12T05:45:36+00:00 Naw, that seems like a viable solution, which ought to work, on some machines' installations. However, it simply didn't work for me.
As a software developer, it was intuitively obvious to me that the MS O/S programmers foresaw potential hacks and work-arounds.
Accordingly, they coded background commands which determine the current state of the properties settings which related to O/S updates. And, they embedded conditional statements (i.e., If...Then...Else blocks) to check and reset (if necessary) the state of certain related properties, so as to effect activation of the update warning's notorious nag screen.
In the end, I freed up additional space on my hard drive and permitted the installation of an updated version of Windows 10, despite my chagrin and consternation. It approximately three hours; but, the egregious problem has been eradicated.
