Black screen with cursor after Windows 10 update

I believe you may be having a hardware or BIOS issue. 

My desktop was taking approximately 5 minutes to display after power on or restart.  After a restart I used Ctrl, Alt, Del to get to task manager, services, and disabled AppReadiness and the desktop displayed.

No desktop problem when I started in safe mode:

Temporary fixes:

1 restoring drive image from prior to update

2 in-place install of windows using media creation tool

3 recovery using earlier restore point.  Even when the recovery failed sometimes the problem went away for a few days.

NO

• Besides restarting your computer, have you tried any other troubleshooting steps?

NO RESTART SINCE OPEN FILES

I've got this problem as well since the install of 1709. There is absolutely nothing but a black screen and moveable cursor. There is no access to Ctrl-Alt-Del.   There were no other changes to the system prior to the 1709 update.

My issue is that I can not let my computer sleep at all. If I do, I have no other option but to hard reset it. When I do restart it I have access to my normal system. I have tried all of the suggestions in this thread, Disabling AppReadiness does not work. My bios is the latest version, I have tried different graphics driver versions, I have done both of the DISM and SFC processes. The only solution I have found is to set the power option 'Sleep' to never but this is not a satisfactory solution.

My machine is a Lenovo e540.

Have you tried an in-place upgrade using Microsoft Windows Creation Tool https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10.  Download the tool and then choose the option to do an upgrade while keeping your files and apps.  When it's done your computer should work unless you have a hardware issue.

After I login into system, it shows black screen with cursor. I cannot see the desktop or any other startup menus. I tried using sticky keys, I reached the control panel and tried system restore, but no use. It says svchost.exe application error. And still after continuing it comesback to the same point with black screen and cursor.. help me friends.
