I have been struggling with this issue for well over a month, It first started with the "2018-02 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4090913)". Now its update Tuesday and this months cumulative update (KB4088776) is doing the exact same thing.

I have tried all 5 of the steps provided by microsofts here:                            (More than once)

https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/910336/windows-update-error-0x80070002-or-0x80070003

Finally, I have done a clean install of windows 10 three times now in the past couple of weeks, to no prevail.

After each fresh install. the exact same issue.

I am running Windows 10 Pro Education, Version 1709, build 16299.15.

After each install it seems to update no problem, but seems to only be an issue once I reactivate my Windows 10 Pro Activation key.

I gave up weeks ago, and was hoping my problem would simply be solved by the latest update, but that is not the case.

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Microsoft.....PLEASE STOP sending me notifications about the 2018-03 Cumulative update.  PLEASE STOP restarting my computer with the result of a failed install.  This is getting old.  Either fix the bugs in the updates or give me a simple resolution without having me do a recovery to factory settings.

this tooney(2) seems to post the same reply over and over again in other peoples' problems. What is his/her problem? Is there any community watch here to overlook and filter freaky behavior(s)?

Thanks for your suggestion PaulSey. Tried it but with mixed results. The update now shows that it requires a restart. Have tried this a number of times but it still shows the restart message. However, it has now ceased to continually try to update. Maybe it has in fact succeeded, but still shows that it failed, as per one of Microsoft's known issues on their error page.

    This worked for me

    Open an elevated CMD prompt

Using the Service Controller command, make sure these services are set to auto

    SC config wuauserv start= auto

    SC config bits start= auto

    SC config cryptsvc start= auto

    SC config trustedinstaller start= auto

    Philippe

    Thanks Philippe,

I am just a 'thick' photographer who can use Photoshop but just doesn't understand what you have just suggested.  Can you advise me what to do in plain English please?

    Thanks

    Chris
